‎Rorschach (2015) directed by C.A. Smith • Reviews, film + cast • Letterboxd

Pretty much the Paranormal Activity of Youtube movies. Not a bad effort for a zero budget project. Totally orthodox. As usual. So what? Originality is so overestimated these days, anyway. Above all, enthusiasm and spirit are essential. It's not what it looks like, it's what it stands for, is what I always say. We need more stuff like Rorschach that shows heart and commitment. Few would even try. Respect. Defenitely worth spreading, unless you're allergic to FF. • The premise is fine, the acting is decent, the sound design is good, and there are a few creepy little moments. But this really is the basic formula for a found footage film in it's least inventive form. The ending is also abrupt and inconclusive, besides to leave the door open for a potential sequel. It's a well put together micro budget feature, but I doubt that I could pick it out of a lineup. • Fun fact, all wood paneling is haunted/possessed. This did not have a psychic or seance but it was totally in that realm so close enough. It's a no-budget found footage haunted house movie, and it's done pretty well. I liked how the investigators' footage was shown edited so you don't have to sit through boring stretches of nothing happening (lookin at you, Paranormal Activity). I was enjoying this until the end, which I found confusing - how is the spirit/demon/badthingy still in the house but also still with the family after they left?? that is one magic spirit! did I miss something? was it twin badthingies that decid...

Rorschach (2015)

Found footage with a twist and what's the twist? That it's actually quite good. Ever since The Blair Witch Project (1999) we've been awash with found footage movies. Primarily because they are cheap to make and this one as well was made on a budget of less than 10k. Sadly they are almost always terrible, the low budget generally means that nothing happens and for the most part this is no different. What Rorschach does differently is the tension, the creators knew what they were doing. They have created a well constucted genuinely creepy movie despite the lack of budget or the fact it's devoid of originality. If you don't like the genre you won't like this, but if you have any faith left in found footage this little gem is worth your time and I'd happily watch a sequel. The Good: Very well made Believable Tension is built perfectly The Bad: No originality at all Still just a cliched found footage film Things I Learnt From This Movie: This sub genre still has life in it Figured I'd write one more review since there are only 2 so far. :-) For a micro-budget movie, this is pretty good. All the acting is very natural; it really does feel like we're watching real people going through some actual creepy experiences. The way they handle things isn't strained or contrived. Each person has their own personality and each of them seems like someone I might encounter in real life. The minimal budget means there are no eye-popping effects (or other standard movie fare such as chase scen...

‘Rorschach’ movie review: Mammootty’s psychological thriller is intriguing but imperfect

‘Rorschach’ movie review: Mammootty’s psychological thriller is intriguing but imperfect ‘Rorschach’ is an effective psychological thriller that has its imperfections, just like the test that it draws its name from, but it is nevertheless an intriguing experience October 07, 2022 04:41 pm | Updated 04:41 pm IST Putting the characters in Rorschach through the Rorschach test, to study their personality traits and mental make-up could be a fascinating exercise, for quite a few of them have a few twisted nodes in their brain. On the surface though, Luke Antony (Mammootty) is the obviously deranged one, seeing visions and fighting against imaginary enemies. The man's arrival in the village bordering a forest is clouded in mystery, which is only compounded by his actions. Luke walks into the police station and reports that his wife has gone missing after their car got into an accident near the forest. But, as the search operation progresses, doubts crop up on whether the woman has actually gone missing or even whether she is a figment of his imagination. This also strengthens the feeling that the rich man from Dubai had reached this nondescript village with other intentions in mind. Storyline: Luke Anthony is out on a mission to seek revenge from someone who has destroyed him deeply. Director Nissam Basheer, who debuted with Kettiyolaanu Ente Maalakha, makes good use of the mystery surrounding Luke and his actions, to further a plot which goes into some unfamiliar territories. Rorschach Movie Review: A layered psychological

Story: A man waits for his missing wife to return, but what are his real intentions As Luke Antony plots war against ten characters in the movie like the ten inkblots in the Rorschach test, the psychological projective test, the audience joins in it. Is it real or imaginative? Nevermind, it's gripping, nerve-racking and entertaining. Kettiyolanente Malakha director Nissam Basheer's second outing written by Sameer Abdul is a surprising thriller which also revolves around the relationship between a husband and wife. However, it is totally different from his maiden movie - a hard-hitting ghost hunting movie with a strong cast and a dreadful ambience that will get under your skin. Luke Antony walks into Thalamuthikunnu police station to report the disappearance of his pregnant wife Sofy after a car accident. He is tired and shattered. After intense searching, the police declares that she will never return, but Luke is not ready to take no for an answer. With the help of a local man named Balan, he camps in the village bordered with thick forest and seeped with an eerie calmness. Is Luke here waiting for his wife to return or to end the years-long wait to vent out his vengeance? Mammootty hides his good looks with ease under his frail face, stoopy shoulders, shivering fingers and dark hoodies. His character sketch is mysterious. He may be schizophrenic with symptoms like insomnia, isolation and unexplained hostility, but he is focused. He lives in a parallel world which is surr...
