The Constitution (Eighty-sixth Amendment) Act, 2002 incorporated Article 21-A into the Indian Constitution, making it a Fundamental Right to provide free and compulsory education to all children aged six to fourteen years in such a manner as the State may decide. Every child has a right to full-time elementary education of adequate and equal quality in a formal school that follows certain basic norms and requirements, according to the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009.
