The district constitutes a population of 17,14,300 as per the census of 2011. Agriculture forms the backbone of district. This freshwater marsh in the Sant Kabir Nagar districtis the largest natural floodplain wetland of eastern Uttar Pradesh. The Sanctuary was established in 1980 and is protected under the Wildlife Protection Act (1972); an “eco-sensitive zone” extends up to a kilometre around its boundary. The wetland is internationally important for its birdlife as it supports over 80 species. It provides a wintering ground for over 25 species which migrate on the Central Asian Flyway, some of which are threatened or near-threatened such as the endangered Egyptian vulture ( Neophron percnopterus), the vulnerable greater spotted eagle ( Aquila clanga), common pochard ( Aythya ferina) and swamp francolin ( Francolinus gularis), and the near-threatened oriental darter ( Anhinga melanogaster) and woolly-necked stork ( Ciconia episcopus). Sant Kabir Nagar News: एसडीएम धनघटा के न्यायालय ने नाथनगर ब्लॉक के ग्राम पंचायत बेलराई के प्रधान के निर्वाचन को चुनौती देने वाली याचिका को मंगलवार को खारिज कर दिया। पंचायत चुनाव में रनर रही प्रत्याशी ने मतगणना में हेरफेर करके प्रधान पद हथियाने का आरोप लगाते उप जिलाधिकारी धनघटा न्यायालय में याचिका दाखिल किया था। प्रधान प्रतिनिधि गिरीश चंद्र चौधरी के नेतृत्व में ग्रामीणों ने न्यायालय के फैसले का स्वागत किया। फर्जी मतदान कराकर पद हथियाने का लगाया था आरोप वर्ष 2021 में हुए पंचायत चुनाव में नाथनगर ब्लॉक के ग्राम पंचायत बेलराई में तीन प्रत्याशियों ने प्रधान पद के लिए दावेदारी किया था। जिसमे ऊषा देवी अपने निकटतम प्रतिद्वंदी सरोज देवी को हराकर ग्राम प्रधान निर्वाचित हुई थीं। निर्वाचन के बाद दूसरे स्थान पर रहीं सरोज देवी ने उप जिलाधिकारी धनघटा के न्यायालय में एक याचिका दाखिल करते हुए ऊषा देवी के निर्वाचन को चुनौती दी थी। याचिका में आरोप लगाया गया था कि निर्वाचित ग्राम प्रधान ने अपने राजनीतिक रसूख और धन बल की बदौलत फर्जी मतदान कराकर और मतगणना कर्मियों को अपने प्रभाव में करके प्रधान पद हथिया लिया है। उनका आरोप था बाहर रहने वाले मतदाताओं और बाहरी लोगों से फर्जी मतदान कराकर निष्पक्ष मतदान को प्रभावित किया गया। मामले में वादी पक्ष से अधिवक्ता सुरेंद्र सिंह और प्रधान पक्ष की तरफ से अधिवक्ता लाल शरण सिंह ने अपना अपना पक्ष रखा। एसडीएम न्यायालय ने दोनो पक्षों की दलीलों को सुनने के बाद पाया कि याची सरोज देवी खुद के द्वारा लगाए गए आरोपों के पक्ष में वे ना तो कोई ठोस आधार प्रस्तुत कर पाईं और ना ही कोई पर्याप्त साक्ष्य ही प्रस्तुत कर सकीं। एसडीएम न्यायालय ने सरोज देवी के वाद को खारिज करते हुए ऊ...
