Five things to know about the Saudi Arabian flag

Different versions of the flag There were many versions of the flag before the current one used since 1973. The ruling Al Saud family established the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1932, and the flag only had the Shahada on it then. In 1912, the sword was added below the inscription. There was a version that included two swords and one that included an even more curved sword than the one seen today. The color and sword have meaning The green color of the flag happens to be the favorite color of the Prophet Muhammad, thereby tying it to the religion of Islam. The sword is a symbol of the Al Saud family’s establishment of the Kingdom, while also sticking to the morals of justice that the country practices. It always point to the left, towards the end of the insciption. The Holy inscription Printing of the flag on any type of items such as clothes is not normally seen as it contains the Shahada, holy words of Islam. In fact, Saudi Arabia denied against its flag printed on a football to be issued by FIFA in 2002, with the reasoning being that there is Holy inscription on it.
