HYDERABAD: G Sayanna, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA from Secunderabad Cantonment, died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Secunderabad on Sunday afternoon. Sayanna has been suffering from a kidney-related ailment for the last few months and was admitted to a hospital a few days ago. Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, his cabinet colleagues, BRS working president K T Rama Rao, BJP and Congress state presidents Bandi Sanjay and A Revanth Reddy and others from various political parties, and organisations expressed their condolences. Sayanna started his political career with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and won from the Secunderabad Cantonment reserved for the Scheduled Castes in 1994, 1999 and 2004. He lost the seat to Shankar Rao of Congress in 2009 and won it back in 2014. Later, he joined BRS in 2015-16. He also served as a member of Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam when he was a TDP MLA. He won the Secunderabad Cantonment constituency in the 2018 assembly polls on a BRS ticket. He also served as a director of HUDA (Hyderabad Urban Development Authority) in the undivided state and worked as the chairman of the House Committee on Rehabilitation of Street Children in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. SECUNDERABAD: The final journey of Secunderabad Cantonment MLA G Sayanna was marred by protests as his followers shouted slogans and vented their ire with the government for not according him a state funeral. The final rites, scheduled to be over by 6pm, was finally completed around 7.30pm at Marredpally graveyard after the supporters were pacified by the late BRS MLA's family and party leaders. Earlier in the day, the five-term MLA's body was shifted from his home at Ashok Nagar to the camp office in Karkhana for public to pay their last respects. The final procession started from Karkhana at 3.30 pm and proceeded to Marredpally via Picket and AOC Circle. The trouble began when his supporters did not find any police band or cops at the crematorium. Amidst slogans, ministers Talasani Srinivas Yadav and Ch Malla Reddy, who were in the procession, left the graveyard. Later, deputy speaker and Secunderabad MLA T Padma Rao, Malkajgiri MLA Mynampally Hanumantha Rao and Greater Hyderabad BRS president and MLA Maganti Gopinath spoke to the CMO and KT Rama Rao to apprise them of the situation. Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislator G. Sayanna, passed away on Sunday. He was 72. Sayanna, a member of Telangana state Assembly from Secunderabad Cantonment constituency, breathed his last at a hospital in Hyderabad. He was suffering from heart and kidney related ailments. The legislator was admitted to hospital on February 16 and was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit. Sayanna is survived by three daughters. He was elected as MLA for five terms from Secunderabad Cantonment constituency. Known as a non-controversial politician, he began his political career from Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and was first elected to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly in 1994. He retained the seat in 1999 and 2004 but lost the election in 2009. In 2014, Sayanna was again elected from the same seat on the TDP ticket. He later joined the BRS and retained the seat in the 2018 polls. He served as director of Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) for six terms. In 2015, he was also appointed as a member of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) governing council. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has expressed grief over the demise of Sayanna and conveyed his condolences to the members of his family. After his blood sugar levels dropped drastically, Sayanna’s family members rushed him to the hospital three days ago, where he died on the afternoon of Sunday, 19 February, while undergoing treatment. Accompanied by his followers, Sayanna’s family members later shifted the body to his residence at Ashok Nagar in Musheerabad. On coming to know about his death, a large number of Sayanna’s followers from the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly constituency and elsewhere in the city rushed to his residence to pay tributes.
