SC verdict on disqualification of 16 Maharashtra MLAs today. Who are they?

The Supreme Court is set to deliver a Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde with deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis offered prayers at Ram Lalla Temple in Ayodhya on Sunday (Eknath Shinde Twitter/ANI)(HT_PRINT) It will decide whether Eknath Shinde remains the chief minister and whether his rebellion was illegal. In June last year, Shinde along with 39 MLAs rebelled against the Shiv Sena leadership resulting in the party’s split and collapse of the MVA government, which also comprised the NCP and Congress. Shinde later joined hands with the BJP to return as the CM after winning a floor test. The disqualification of the 16 rebel MLAs was then sought by Thackeray's faction. Along with Shinde, three cabinet ministers are also part of the 16 MLAs whose disqualification plea is before the top court. They were among the first batch of the total 40 MLAs who chose to switch to Shinde’s faction and camped out at a luxury hotel in BJP-ruled Assam. Catch the latest updates on the Maharashtra political crisis: • Rebel Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Shirsat has written a letter to the Maharashtra CM, claiming that Eknath Shinde took the step of going against the party leadership as Sena MLAs, who faced "humiliation" for the last two-and-a-half years, persuaded him to do so. • He said that despite Shiv Sena having its own chief minister, the coterie around Thackeray never allowed them access to 'Varsha', the CM's official residence.
