There are multiple generations of lace bug per year. Azalea, rhododendron, and Japanese andromeda ( Pieris japonica) each have their own unique species of lace bug. Adult lace bugs are flat, about 1/8 inch long, with transparent lace-like wings. Immature lace bugs (nymphs) are black and covered with spines.
