And so, this year India will celebrate its 74th Republic Day on January 26, 2023.



There is a small difference between these two but the significances are grand. The hoisting of the national flag symbolises the rise of a new nation that has achieved freedom from colonial domination. At the same time unfurling on Republic Day signifies that India is already a free nation and so the flag is already on top of the flag pole.



Independence Day 2022: India is celebrating its 75th Independence Day on August 15. This year is of more significance because the country is observing the day as ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ across the country. On August 15, 1947, the British left the country after ruling the subcontinent for 200 years.



The Indian National Flag was hoisted for the first time at 6 p.m. on 15th August 1947, in the open lawns of Princes Park near India Gate.The ceremony was organized under the aegis of Headquarter Delhi Area, commanded by Major General Maharaj Shri Rajindra Sinhji, DSO, who also commanded the parade at the flag hoisting.
