Secunderabad Ujjaini Mahankali Boanlu 2021 Date Time of Pooja

Hyderabad Traffic Police had decided to put traffic restrictions in and around the Ujjaini Mahankali Temple in Secunderabad in view of the Bonalu celebrations on Sunday and Monday. The police will divert some routes and they closed some routes anticipating heavy traffic jams. Here are details of adjustments made by the traffic police in and around Secunderabad: • Road leading to Mahankali temple from Tobacco Bazaar, Hill Street and General Bazar will be closed on Sunday from 4 AM till the pooja gets completed. • Subhash Road starting from Bata X Roads till Ramgopalpet police station will also be closed. • Roads from Adavaiah X Roads and General Bazaar to Mahankali temple will be closed for traffic. • Traffic coming from Karbala Maidan will be diverted at Ranigunj X Roads towards Minister Road – Rasoolpura X roads – CTO – SBH X Roads – YMCA X Roads – St John’s Rotary – Gopalapuram Lane – Railway Station. • RTC Buses coming from Railway Station will pass through Alpha Hotel X Road – Gandhi Hospital X Roads – Sajjanlal Street – Ghasmandi – Bible house – Karbala Maidan. Bonalu 2022: A look at Telangana's traditional Hindu festival

The incessant rains that lashed the city of Hyderabad over this month could not break the spirit of the 62-year-old Venkatamma and her daughters-in-law, who wholeheartedly celebrated Telangana’s traditional festival Bonalu. The rains were hardly a challenge compared to the Covid-19 pandemic for the devotees who have never backed down from celebrating the state’s traditional festival in the last two years. “I have been celebrating Bonalu every year for the past 42 years,” Venkatamma, a resident of Masab Tank in Hyderabad, told South First. The annual Telangana traditional festival is extensively celebrated in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The three-week festival kicked off on 3 July this year and will go on till 24 July. What is Bonalu? The festival is dedicated to goddess Mahakali, considered to be a ferocious avatar of Hindu goddess Durga. Various village deities — Yellamma, Maisamma, Pochamma, Peddamma, Dokkalamma, Ankalamma, Poleramma, Maremma, and Nookalamma — are also worshipped during this time. “We believe that the grama devatalu (village deities) would protect us from the water-borne diseases that occur during this time of the year. The goddesses will bless us all with good health among other things, ” Venkatamma said. The name Bonalu is derived from the word ‘ Bonam’, which means a meal or a feast in Telugu. Telangana gears up to celebrate state festival Bonalu from June 30

As Telangana and capital Hyderabad gear up for the state festival Bonalu, the state government assured elaborate arrangements and allocated Rs 15 crore for the same. The month-long festival commences on June 30 at Golconda fort and culminates on July 24. As part of the festival, Golconda Bonalu is celebrated at Jagadamba temple on June 30, whereas, Secunderabad Bonalu is celebrated at Ujjaini Mahakali temple on July 17 and Hyderabad Bonalu at the Lal Darwaza Simhavahini Mahankali temple on July 24. The festival is also celebrated at hundreds of smaller temples across the city. On Tuesday, minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav reviewed the progress of arrangements at the fort and said the festivities would commence with the state’s offering of a pattu cheera (silk saree) at the Jagadamba temple on the fort premises. The Bonalu festival was accorded the status of a state festival after the formation of a separate Telangana state in 2014. At the Golconda fort, the government has made arrangements for crowd control, set up CCTV cameras, and deployed over 800 policemen on duty apart from SHE teams and police in mufti. Traffic will be diverted at 14 locations and eight parking slots have been identified near the fort. Bonalu 2022 in Hyderabad: Check Dates, Puja Time and Locality
