Visiting the Seychelles: The Ultimate 1 Week Seychelles Itinerary

The Seychelles are a small island nation around a thousand miles off the coast of Kenya in the Indian Ocean. For a long time, these islands were also my home, and I’m proud to be half Seychellois! I spent a lot of my youth in the islands, but hadn’t visited with Jess – something we changed on a recent trip. On that trip, Jess and I spent some time exploring the islands. I was excited to show her all my favourite beaches, eat my favourite Seychelles dishes, and of course do a lot of sight-seeing. From this trip, and my previous experience living in the Seychelles, we’re going to be sharing a number of posts to help you plan your own visit to the Seychelles, starting off with our guide to how to spend 1 week in the Seychelles. We think 1 week in the Seychelles is about the minimum amount of time to visit the islands for, as it will let you see a number of different islands, and see a fair few sights. If you have time and budget, we’ll also be putting together a two week itinerary which will cover a bit more, and let you spend more time exploring the islands. As well as a 1 week Seychelles itinerary, this post will also cover a number of practicalities, including when to visit the Seychelles, how to get around the Seychelles, tips for your time on the islands, and much more! Let’s get started. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • 1 Week in the Seychelles In our opinion, 1 week will give you time to take in three of the main islands in the Seychelles...

Epic Seychelles Travel Guide: 1 Week Seychelles Itinerary

The Seychelles is outside of our traditional traveling scope, but we decided to visit in April 2021. This is a time in the pandemic when many European countries either did not allow Americans or were still struggling with high caseloads. However, since we were already fully vaccinated, we chose to visit one of the few places that would take us at the time: The Seychelles! Check out some tips and advice and our 1-week Seychelles itinerary below. Or browse through some complete travel guides right here for even more info. Turns out that by coincidence, we ended up visiting one of the best times of the year. In the months of April, May, October, and November, the Seychelles experiences a transition between the hotter winds from the northwest and the cooler ones from the southeast. This makes the waters much calmer, so it’s perfect for all kinds of water activities. The tradeoff is that the weather is also very humid this time of year. It’s generally in the 80s F (high 20s C), but the brutal humidity we felt is unique to these few months. One thing to note is that given the location of these islands, clouds and rain are not uncommon. It seemed to rain more in the larger islands like Mahe and Praslin, but it is a thing to consider when choosing whether this is the right spot for you. We welcomed the clouds (especially after getting incredibly sunburned on days 1 and 2) and the crazy rain showers made this Seychelles itinerary even more unique, but good to keep in mind. • Their ...

Read the full disclosure policy Located in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa, the Seychelles are a group of 115 islands that are basically the definition of paradise. White sand beaches, warm turquoise water, giant tortoises, and all the palm trees await you there. And while the Seychelles are most often associated with honeymoons (Prince William and Kate Middleton vacationed here after their 2011 marriage), the truth is that there's SO much more to the Seychelles than just romantic beach resorts. In fact, to truly experience these islands, you really need at least a week in the Lucky you, though, that I've put together the perfect Seychelles itinerary for one week in the Seychelles! Here's everything I think you should do with a week in this island paradise. Seychelles itinerary: 1 week in the Seychelles Day 1: Arrival and Mahe Getting to the Seychelles can take a bit of time depending on where you live, but there are more connections to the island nation than you probably expect. There are direct flights from places like Johannesburg, South Africa; Dubai, UAE; Frankfurt, Germany; Paris, France; and soon London in the UK. I flew from Boston to Dubai, and then Dubai to Mahe International Airport. What you might see flying into or out of Mahe Depending on where you're flying from, you'll arrive on Mahe (the largest isla...

Group tours take the hassle out of planning your Seychelles tour itinerary, as accommodation, tours, and transfers are pre-planned and organised for you. The downfall of a group tour, however, is you don’t have much flexibility when it comes to what you see and where you eat. If you travel independently, you’ll have complete control over your accommodation and itinerary. You can explore the islands at your own pace and prioritise specific locations and activities – it just takes a little bit of planning. That said, I did book an 8-day Seychelles Ponant Cruise on Le Jacques Cartier on a recent trip, and it was a great way to see many different islands. Although you do have to sacrifice a bit of personal autonomy, it’s worth it if you want to see a number of islands in a relatively short period of time. The Ultimate Seychelles Travel Guide • The Blonde Abroad

I’ve been to a lot of beaches, and I’ve loved them all, but there’s something magical about the boulder-dotted coastlines of the Seychelles Islands. There’s a reason they call the Seychelles “paradise on earth,” and you’ll see as soon as you arrive. Located off the east coast of Kenya, the Seychelles is made up of 115 coral and granite islands—most have protected areas of marine sanctuaries and UNESCO-listed nature reserves, and are home to endemic species like the giant Aldabra tortoises and the rare Coco de Mer palm. You can spend your days hiking through the lush jungles, relaxing on the picture-perfect beaches or diving and exploring the island’s underwater heritage. With year-round sunshine, there isn’t really a bad time to visit the Seychelles Islands. For the best weather, you’ll want to visit April through May and October through November. The obvious first place to go is the capital of the country, but not just yet. We think a taste of the Indian Ocean waves is in order, and we actually prefer the idea of recovering from jet lag on the beach, don’t you? So, head north to the beach at Beau Vallon. It might not be the secluded cove dotted with granite rocks that you’ve seen in the brochures since it’s arguably the single most popular stretch of sand in the whole country. What it is great for...

The Seychelles may be the ultimate do-nothing island paradise, but there is plenty to do! Of course, this destination is all about beaches (the Seychellois call them anses, or bays). Think powdery white sand punctuated by surreal granite boulders bordering clear turquoise waters… But the interior has plenty to offer, too, with lush jungle and special endemic flora and fauna. The Seychelles consist of four bigger, inhabited islands and scores of smaller islets (often deserted except for luxury resorts) in the Indian Ocean, some 1000km from the African mainland. Each island has a different feel… and why choose if you can see them all with this island-hopping itinerary! Get up close and personal with the local wildlife Seychelles itinerary highlights: • Play Robinson Crusoe on Chauve Souris Island • Wander among giant coco de mer palms in Praslin’s Vallée de Mai • Cycle to the best beaches in the world on La Digue, and meet giant tortoises along the way • Find your favorite anse while beach-hopping in Mahé • Wind down at La Belle Tortue on Silhouette Island • Take a scenic plane or helicopter ride between islands No words needed… With a tiny population of not even 100.000, tourism is an important source of income.
