Reliance Power Limited is an India-based company, which develops, constructs and operates power projects both in India, as well as internationally. The Company on its own and through its subsidiaries has a range of portfolio of power generation capacity, both in operation as well as capacity under development. The Company is involved in coal, gas, hydro, wind and solar based energy projects. The portfolio of the Company also includes Ultra Mega Power Projects (UMPPs). The company has approximately 6000 megawatt (MW) operational power generation assets. The projects under development include three coal-fired projects; one gas-fired projects and 12 hydroelectric projects, six of them in Arunachal Pradesh, five in Himachal Pradesh and one in Uttarakhand. Reliance Power Limited, formerly known as Reliance Energy Generation Limited, was incorporated on 17th January '1995 under the name of Bawana Power Private Ltd and has changed its name on multiple occasions until July’2007 when it was finally renamed Reliance Power Ltd. The company has a presence in four out of nine significant directions: western India, northern India, northeastern and southern India. In 2010, Reliance Power entered into a contract with Shanghai Electric Group Company worth USD 8.3 billion to purchase 36 coal-fired power generation units, spare parts, and related services for 10 years, making it the largest contract entered between an Indian private company and a government-owned Chinese firm. The promoters of the company currently hold 24.98% of the stake in the company, out of which 1.22% is pledged.
