Sena ad claims Shinde more preferred as CM over Fadnavis; it's now ‘Modi

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena on Tuesday placed a full-page advertisement in many newspapers titled “Modi for India, Shinde for Maharashtra”, quoting a survey where Shinde is shown as more preferred for the top post than BJP's Devendra Fadnavis. The ad prompted Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut to call the party “Modi-Shah's Shiv Sena”, while Shiv Sena leader and school education minister Deepak Kesarkar said the Opposition is "jealous" as Shinde and Fadnavis are working like “brothers”. The advertisement carries Sena's bow-and-arrow symbol and images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Shinde. It has no image or photo of Shiv Sena founder late Balasaheb Thackeray, a noticeable departure going by its earlier publicity materials. “…For the chief minister's position, 26.1 per cent of the people in Maharashtra desire Eknath Shinde and 23.2 per cent of the people wish to see Devendra Fadnavis as the next chief minister,” reads the advertisement. Senior BJP leader Fadnavis was the CM between 2014 and 2019. Thus, it is undeniable proof that 49.3 per cent of the people in Maharashtra wish to see a strong alliance between BJP and Shiv Sena for their state's leadership, it said. The figures and claims in the advertisement have been attributed to a Zee TV-Matrize survey. “According to the election surveys, 30.2 per cent of citizens of Maharashtra prefer Bharatiya Janata Party, while 16.2 per cent of citizens prefer the Shiv Sena (led by Eknath Shinde). Sibal said it may even lead to a law and order situation. “Does the (EC) order contain any direction regarding bank accounts or properties,” the SC asked. “No, but tomorrow they will say they are the party, they will take over…They are doing that… So no taking over of bank accounts, properties, all those things till the court decides the matter,” Sibal responded. The CJI, however, said the court can only consider matters which are part of the EC order. “If something is a part of the EC order, we can certainly look at it. This does not form… The EC order is confined to the allotment of a symbol,” he said. 'No Differences': Deepak Kesarkar After Shiv Sena's Newspaper Ad Angers Ally BJP 'No Differences': Deepak Kesarkar After Shiv Sena's Newspaper Ad Angers Ally BJP While responding to Darekar's comment, Kesarkar clarified that the advertisement merely references a survey and emphasised that there are no differences between the two parties. "We don't have any differences," stated Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar on Tuesday, in response to a question regarding the Shiv Sena's front-page advertisement in Mumbai newspapers, which drew criticism from certain BJP leaders. Kesarkar's attempt to calm things down after Darekar's attack BJP leader Praveen Darekar, reacting to the advertisement earlier in the day, had expressed his displeasure. "The advertisement is misleading. It attempts to portray CM Shinde as the most popular leader in the state. However, both Shinde and Fadnavis have contributed to Maharashtra's progress. Therefore, if someone is attempting to create a division between the two parties by elevating one as superior or more popular than the other, we should not succumb to it. Such actions only serve to disrupt the harmony," commented Darekar. While responding to Darekar's comment, Kesarkar clarified that the advertisement merely references a survey and emphasised that there are no differences between the two parties. Highlights: Can't Restore Uddhav Thackeray As Chief Minister As He Resigned Before Floor Test: Supreme Court

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today said that the Maharashtra Governor was not justified in calling upon then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to prove majority in the Assembly on June 30 last year but refused to order status quo ante, saying he did not face the floor test and resigned. In a unanimous verdict on a batch of pleas related to the political crisis that led to the fall of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by Uddhav Thackeray following a revolt by the Eknath Shinde faction, a five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud held that House speaker's decision to appoint Bharat Gogawale of the Shinde faction as the whip of Shiv Sena was "illegal". It, however, said since Mr Thackeray had resigned without facing the floor test, the governor was justified in inviting Mr Shinde to form government at the behest of the BJP which was the largest political party in the house. Here are the highlights of this big story: The Supreme Court on Thursday said it cannot ordinarily adjudicate disqualification petitions against legislators under the anti-defection law and directed the Maharashtra Assembly speaker to take a decision on such pleas against Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and other MLAs within a reasonable period. A five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud rejected the submission of the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena that the top court should adjudicate the pending disqualification petitions against Mr Shinde and othe...
