WTC Final 2023: Was Shubman Gill out? Controversy erupts over Cameron Green's catch

Shubman Gill's wicket in the 2nd innings of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final has sparked a lot of debate and controversy as to whether Cameron Green had caught the ball fairly or if the ball had caressed the ground. On the first ball of the eighth over of India's run chase, bowled by Scott Boland, Gill edged one and the ball flew to the slip cordon, where Cameron Green was position as the third slip. Green dived low to his left and caught the ball with his left hand. The soft signal was out, but the on-field umpires sent the decision upstairs for the third umpire to take a look at whether the ball had touched the ground or if it was a clean catch by Green. The TV replays were inconclusive in proving whether the ball had touched the ground or if Green had managed to save the ball from touching the ground, but the third umpire decided that it was out, which has sparked a big online debate. The decision could well prove to be a significant one in the grand scheme of things as Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma had put on 41 runs in just seven overs and were on course to give India just the sort of start they needed in order to chase the target of 444.
