As a popular Pediatrician, he would have treated a whole generation of Hyderabadi families and then, their children – many with infectious diseases more deadly than the current Covid – like Diphtheria, Tetanus, Typhoid, and Dengue. Dr Shyam Raj was an alumnus of the Jagirdar’s College and Hyderabad Public School. He was a Gold Medalist in Urdu. He joined the Osmania Medical College in 1958 and post-graduated in Pediatrics from Niloufer Hospital. He specialized in Communicable Diseases of Children and was awarded the Commonwealth Medical Fellowship at the King’s Cross Hospital in Scotland, UK and was trained at the famous Hospital for Sick Children in London. Once he came back to India, he worked as Research Asst. Professor in Pediatric Communicable Diseases at the Fever Hospital for 15 years. He was an inspiring teacher and guide for a whole generation of today’s top doctors and was the Chief Coordinator of the Student Exchange Programme between Dundee and Osmania Universities for over 10 years. The Garhwa police arrested gangster Shyam Raj Sharma alias Pankaj Sharma, the mastermind of the Vimal Singh murder case and sent him to judicial custody on Wednesday. Giving details SDPO Awadh Kumar Yadav said that Vimal Singh alias Munna Singh was shot dead in Sukhbana of Garhwa town on June 22 due to the ongoing land dispute. In this regard, Vikesh Singh, brother of the deceased lodged FIR against Krishna Paswan, Anil Paswan, Anil Ram and Santosh Chandravanshi native of the same village. After the incident, the angry villagers caught two criminals on the spot and thrashed them to death. After the incident, an SIT was formed under the leadership of the sub-divisional police officer on the instructions of the SP. He said that the named accused Shyam Raj Sharma, who carried out the incident by the team, has been arrested, he has accepted his involvement in this case. SDPO Avadh Kumar Yadav informed that Shyam Raj Sharma is a dreaded criminal around 20 criminal cases included four murders, four bank robberies, extortion, road robbery etc. registered against him in different police stations.
