He tweeted: "Are we just not going to talk about the fact Capitol Police Chief Sund said he had intel that Antifa was part of the Jan 6 attack?" Are we just not going to talk about the fact Capitol Police Chief Sund said he had intel that Antifa was part of the Jan 6 attack?— Jack Posobiec 🇺🇸 (@JackPosobiec) The Facts Tuesday's testimony focused largely on a breakdown of intelligence and communication that Capitol security officials said rendered them helpless against rioters on January 6. Sund described an hours-long lag in backup from the Pentagon after a request for support from the National Guard, and in the days preceding the riots, a lack of preparedness by the intelligence community. Sund and his colleagues explained that as consumers of intelligence, the Capitol police rely on information from the He said that he and his colleagues anticipated that what would become known as the Capitol attacks would be similar to previous MAGA rallies. Sund also said that intelligence assessments listed groups expected to be present in Washington, D.C. that day. "As previously mentioned, the IICD intelligence assessment indicated that the January 6th protests/...

And then, secondly, very shortly after, my colleague, Carol Leonnig and I reported that, days before the attack, you requested the National Guard be deployed to the Capitol and that that request was rebuffed. And that became the first of what would become a very complex and disturbing picture of law enforcement and government failures. MR. SUND: So, the threat was coming up very similar to what we'd been seeing before. The information we were getting from our intelligence unit, and also the partner federal intelligence agencies were giving us the same level of intelligence that we'd seen--I call it MAGA one and MAGA two. It was the November MAGA rally, the Stop the Steal rally, that happened in November. The same one that happened in December--I think it was the 11th or 12th of December--where we were seeing indications that, you know, Proud Boys, some of the militia groups would be there. Spencer Platt/Getty Images The former chief of U.S. Capitol Police says security officials at the House and Senate rebuffed his early requests to call in the National Guard ahead of a demonstration in support of President Trump that turned into a deadly attack on Congress. Former chief Steven Sund -- who -- made the assertions in an interview with Sund contradicts claims made by officials after Wednesday's assault on Capitol Hill. Sund's superiors said previously that the National Guard and other additional security support could have been provided, but no one at the Capitol requested it. Sund told the Post that House Sergeant-at-Arms Paul Irving was concerned with the "optics" of declaring an emergency ahead of the protests and rejected a National Guard presence. He says Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Michael Stenger recommended that he informally request the Guard to be ready in case it was needed t...
