How Sura Ad

by Amani Iqbal Many of us know surah ad-duha off by heart and have probably read its meaning many times as well, which seems quite straightforward. How many of us, though, have actually gone into the reason behind its revelation and derived the lessons and implications this surah has in our lives? This surah was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (saw) at a time when he had not received any revelation for six months, not even in the form of a dream! The Prophet (saw) was in a very disturbed state of mind, feeling negative and depressed and believing that Allah was displeased with him, had forgotten him, and did not want him as a Nabi anymore. Don’t we have similar feelings in our lives? Times when our level of imaan is low, our khushoo in salah wavers and we feel a drop in our connection with Allah? We feel like our duas are not being answered, our salah is not having a positive impact on our hearts, and worst of all the feeling that we’re horrible human beings, that Allah doesn’t love us or doesn’t care about us anymore. Surah Ad-Duha was revealed to the Prophet (saw) to relieve him of these negative feelings and to give him hope, positivity, and the assurance that Allah is with him no matter what. From it we too can find peace, hope, and a renewed faith in Allah when we go through similar states of depression, sadness, and hopelessness. So what does this surah say? Wad duhaa— By the morning brightness This is the first thing you need to hear when you’re depressed: W ake up, lo...

What is the reason for the revelation of Surah Duha?

Many of us may wonder about the reason why Surah Duha was revealed and the story behind it. And that’s what we will learn shortly. For a period of time the revelation of the Quran stopped for 6 months, which made the prophet depressed, he thought that Allah was angry with him for something he did and he started losing hope. The disbelievers kept mocking him and the believers started to have doubts. That’s why Allah revealed this Surah that directly speaks to the Prophet to comfort him. What is the story behind Surah Duha? For a period of time, the revelation of the Quran stopped which made the disbelievers mock the prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) and say that Allah forsaken him. This made the prophet depressed and sad, and that’s why Allah revealed surah Al- Duha to comfort him and make him happy. Allah says in the surah: مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَىٰ ﴿3﴾ Your Lord has neither forsaken you nor is He displeased with you. This verse comforts the prophet telling him that Allah is not angry with him and didn’t abandon him. وَلَسَوْفَ يُعْطِيكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرْضَىٰ ﴿5﴾ Soon your Lord will give you [that with which] you will be pleased. The verses of tis Surah made the prophet happy and showed him that Allah is not angry with him as he thought. Where was surah Al Duha revealed? Suran Al Duha was revealed in Makkah, it is one of the first surahs revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him). The Surah has only 11 verses and it’s number 93 in the Quran. Mean...

Sourate Ad

Description de la sourate AD-DUHA / LE JOUR MONTANT Sourate 93 : SOURATE AD-DUHA « LE JOUR MONTANT » La Sourate Doha, Sourate Ad Duha ou encore Sourate Al Douha (en arabe : سورة الضحى) est traduite en français par la Sourate Le Jour Montant.

Four lessons you can learn from Surah Ad

1.) ‘By the morning brightness’. [93:1] The fact that Allah swears by the midmorning ( al-duha ) is proof of its merit. It is a noble time, in which it is recommended to pray the Duha Prayer. If someone prays the Fajr prayer in congregation and then remembers Allah until the sun has risen and then prays the Duha Prayer, they will have the reward of both Hajj and Umrah. The Prophet (saw) said, 'As each morning comes, every one of you must give charity for every limb of their body. Saying ‘Subhanallah’ is an act of charity, saying ‘Alhamdulillah’ is an act of charity, saying ‘La ilaha ill’Allah’ is an act of charity, and saying ‘Allahu Akbar’ is an act of charity. Commanding people to do good is an act of charity and forbidding evil is an act of charity. To pray two units at the time of Duha suffices you all this charity'. We are reminded there is light, there is always hope. That the days come and go, and with every sunrise is the new opportunity to do good, to grow, to change. There is hope that things won’t always be the same, so look forward to everything that is yet to come. 2.) 'And the hereafter is better for you than the first (life)’. [93:4] The honour which Allah will bestow upon you in the next life is far greater than that which we have bestowed upon in this life. Likewise, although the sincere believer is given mercy and blessings in this life, what is awaiting him is much better. We are reminded that this Dunya is nothing, that it was designed to hurt us, to be...
