Surah 113 Al

Share Page 113 Al-Falaq This is a Makki Surah and draws its name from the mention of Al Falaq, the Day Break, in the first verse. Together with Surah An Naas, it is known as Muadhdhitayn, the ones used to seek refuge, as the Prophet ﷺ often recited these two surahs during sickness and to protect from the evil eye. Beginning with one attribute of Allaah (SWT), Lord of the Day Break, believers are asked to seek refuge from the evil of what He Has created, from the evil of the night that approaches, from the evil of those who practice magic and from the evil of those who are envy.

Surah Falaq "Daybreak": A Quranic Surah for Protection from Evil

Surah Falaq (سورَةُ الفَلَق), meaning daybreak, aka Mu‘awwadhah (مُعَوَّذَة), meaning seeking refuge, and Qul A‘ūdhu bi Rabb al-Falaq (taken from the first verse of this surah) is the 113th and penultimate chapter in the Noble Quran that God revealed to Prophet Muhammad in Medina. God tells His prophet to seek refuge in Him who is the Lord of the daybreak from the evil of creatures. This surah is one of the two surahs known as Ma‘ūdhatayn (مَعوذَتين), meaning the two surahs for seeking refuge in God from evil, specifically from darkness, witches, and jealous people. The Prophet and his successors have said that whoever recites this surah will be safe from dangers and evil. Moreover, The Prophet said that God very much loves this surah. بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيم In the name of Allah, the most compassionate, most merciful قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ ﴿1﴾ Say, ‘I seek the protection of the Lord of the daybreak مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ ﴿2﴾ from the evil of what He has created, وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ ﴿3﴾ and from the evil of the dark night when it falls, وَمِن شَرِّ النَّفَّاثَاتِ فِي الْعُقَدِ ﴿4﴾ and from the evil of the witches, who blow on knots, وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ ﴿5﴾ and from the evil of the envious one when he envies.’ • • • • • • Occasion and Context of Revelation of Surah Falaq Not much has been said about the occasion of Imam Ali found a rope with several knots.
