(Sura al Kahf 18:9) The story of the People of the Cave seems to be well known among the People of the Book, especially the Christians. Imam Ibn Ashur discusses why the Jews would know that story because although we call them Muslims, they were followers of Isa, peace be upon him. Historians place these events at around 200-250 AD. This was a time when the Roman Empire was at its height. IT did not become Christian until Constantine. At that time the Empire was pagan. The first 400 years of Christianity there was wide disagreement about the divinity of Isa, peace be upon him. The true followers of Isa, peace be upon him, recognized his prophethood and did not attribute divinity to him. Were the Sleepers Christian? Surah Kahf

Surah Kahf (meaning: The Cave) is the 18th chapter (surah al kahf) of the Quran with 110 verses (ayats). As for the timing and contextual background of the revelation (asbab al-nuzul), it is an earlier “Meccan surah” meaning it was revealed in Mecca, rather than Medina. This surah was revealed in Mecca at a time when the Quraysh’s hostility and their fear and hatred of Islam and the Prophet were at their height. They took every measure to keep the prophet from preaching and the people from listening to him; soon they were planning to kill him: there are indications in the surah that the order to emigrate to Medina is imminent. 4 Lessons from 4 Stories in Chapter Al

Similarly is chapter So what lessons can we take from chapter Al-Kahf? There are too many to put in one article. Or dare I say, too many lessons for even one person to extract all of them. Every time we read the chapter, we will find new lessons. In this article, we will look at the four stories, and extract three daily life lessons for us from each of the stories. There are lots more, but we will keep it to four. The More You Know Him, The More You Love Him Among the many interesting ways that Allah honored Allah loves all His worshipers. But the youth who worship Allah are among His favorites. So much so that in a hadith the Prophet (peace be upon him) said that Allah will give shade to seven categories of people on the Day of Judgement, and among them is a youth who worships Allah. Do not blindly follow trends Through different ways, certain trends, precedents and cultures get present in every culture and society. The youth of the cave came from a culture that worshiped idols. And even though they were young people who were more likely to be conscious of their self-image and what people would think about them, they chose Allah over everything else. They did not follow the people blindly but thought rationally. This is our test as well. We live in societies where many things are norms and cultures, and might not necessarily be right. This is where we need to put Allah first, and not follow practices blindly. Allah takes special care of His favorite slaves What Are the 8 ...
