39 A&S Students Receive 2023 Spring SOURCE and Honors Grants

Forty-one College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) students have been awarded grants from the In the SOURCE/Honors application cycle, there were 88 proposals and 73 award recipients from across Syracuse University schools and colleges. Including LSAMP awards, there were 41 total recipients from A&S. A team of faculty reviewed and rated the applications. The majors of students whose applications were selected encompassed both the humanities and sciences, including biology, biotechnology, chemistry, communication sciences and disorders, environment, sustainability and policy, Earth and environmental sciences, ethics, forensic science, geography, history, linguistics, modern foreign language, neuroscience, physics, political science, psychology, Spanish language and culture and women's and gender studies. In addition, 23 A&S projects have been awarded SOURCE Research Assistant Grants, which will fund the hiring of undergraduate students to take part in the faculty’s ongoing research. These grants support students' sustained research within their discipline while working toward their Edge certification. This A&S | Maxwell program provides students with two or more experiential learning components, bolstering their readiness for a career or graduate school. Commencement Weekend

What is the difference between a Convocation and Commencement? Syracuse University schools and colleges host celebratory Convocations on the Friday or Saturday before Commencement to individually recognizedegree candidates and to present special awards. Convocations are either preceded or followed by receptions, where students and families have the opportunity to mingle with deans and faculty. Commencement is the all-university ceremony on Sunday, May 14, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and ending approximately at noon. With a master of social work (MSW) degree, you can go further in the social work profession and amplify your impact on society. An M.S.W. will enable you to open doors to leadership roles in human service programming and policy making, or gain the credentials to practice in clinical mental health. The master of social work (M.S.W.) degree is the terminal professional degree for the social work profession. Accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), Syracuse’s M.S.W. program allows students to choose from advanced concentrations in Advanced Clinical Practice, for those who wish to become mental health clinicians, or Integrated Social Work Practice, for those who wish to pursue direct practice and leadership in a wide range of increasingly complex human service organizations. The foundation level coursework emphasizes generalist social work practice at the micro, mezzo and macro levels. Students learn how to advance human rights and social, economic and environmental justice, using a range of engagement, assessment, intervention and evaluation methods in their practice with individual, families, groups, organizations, and communities.
