The 82-bed RCHRC will be operated under the aegis of the Tata Cancer Care Foundation (TCCF), which also operates a hospital in Tirupati and an onco-pathology lab in Mumbai. Soren said, “The health facility related to cancer was negligible in Jharkhand. Since the formation of the government, several efforts have been made in this regard. Now patients will no longer need to make long and expensive journeys to other cities for treatment. They will get world-class treatment with affordable and good quality care,” he said. Built on 25 acres of land, the RCHRC is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, well-equipped laboratory and diagnostics equipment including high-end CT and MRI scanners, digital mammography machines as well as advanced linear accelerator and brachytherapy machines to administer radiotherapy, an official said. Tata Trusts trustee and Tata Steel Vice Chairman Noel Tata and Tata Steel MD and CEO TV Narendran were also present on the occasion among other dignitaries. Construction commences for Jharkhand’s first super speciality cancer hospital

On Saturday, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Raghubar Das, and the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, Ratan Tata, laid the foundation stone for Ranchi Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (RCHRC) in Sukurhutu, Kanke. The Rs 400-crore hospital will be spread across 23.5 acres of land provided by the state government and will be constructed in two phases. The first phase is expected to be completed in two years and will provide 50 beds. Half of the total beds will be reserved for patients from Jharkhand. RCHRC will be on par with the Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai. The government has also signed an MoU with the Tata Trusts to establish a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to manage the hospital. The SPV will comprise the Health Minister, Chief Secretary, Health Secretary, and three other members nominated by the Tata Trusts. Although Meherbai Tata Memorial Hospital, Jamshedpur and Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi already offer cancer treatment in Jharkhand, this will be the first hospital in the state to be equipped with advanced facilities. “Lakhs of people die every year due to cancer. The treatment is so costly that people lose the courage to fight back. I appreciate the Jharkhand government’s foresight. Northeast India reports a large number of cancer cases. This hospital will play a major role in saving many lives. I hope that in the next 20-30 years, we will be able to control death due to cancer. We are committed to working with the government,” says Ratan Tata. The...

RANCHI: Chief minister Hemant Soren on Friday inaugurated a new cancer hospital-cum-research centre of Tata Trusts in Ranchi and said, “I hope the facility will prove to be a milestone in the state’s health services in coming years.” Soren, along with health minister Banna Gupta, visited the new hospital building at Kadma village in Sukurhuttu in Kanke block on the outskirts of the city and took a tour of the hospital. “We have very little in Jharkhand for treatment of cancer. So, it is quite natural that patients from the state travel to other states. This hospital will offer treatment in Jharkhand itself. Patients from nearby states will also come,” he added. Spread over a 23.5-acre plot donated by the state government in 2018, the hospital started OPD services in January. Friday’s inauguration will pave way for indoor services. The hospital, the Tata Trusts said, has a provision of 82 beds and with time, the hospital is expected to augment its bed capacity to 300. Tata Trusts and Tata Steel jointly run the Meherbai Tata Memorial Hospital in Jamshedpur.
