Tejashwi Yadav's 'I could be named in chargesheet' jab after DMK minister's arrest

By Rohit Kumar Singh: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav expressed apprehensions that he may soon be implicated in the Central Bureau of Investigation’s supplementary chargesheet in the land-for-jobs scam. This came after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided several locations belonging to Tamil Nadu power minister V Senthil Balaji on Tuesday and arrested him. Yadav, however, attributed the crackdown on the BJP’s fear of the opposition uniting against it ahead of the 2024 elections.

Lalu Prasad Halted "Advani's Rath", Nitish Kumar Will...: Tejashwi Yadav

(Eds: Adds inputs) Patna: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday claimed that the state's ruling 'Mahagathbandhan' led by his boss Nitish Kumar would “stop Narendra Modi's chariot” like his father Lalu Prasad had halted “Advani's rath yatra”. The young RJD leader said opposition parties were coming together to defeat the ruling BJP at the Centre, which he accused of "failing to fulfil promises" made in the past and "raising the “Hindu versus Muslim” binary whenever its shortcomings were pointed out". Mr Yadav made the remarks in a hard-hitting speech delivered at a function organised by the state's handloom weavers' cooperative union, where he also underscored "the country belongs to all communities and no social group can be deprived of its rights". "Be it Hindus, Muslims or any other religious community, all had fought for the country's Independence," said Mr Yadav, adding that "we hear outrageous remarks from some quarters, suggesting that Muslims be deprived of their voting rights". "But rest assured, as long as leaders like Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar are around, nobody can dare do anything of the sort….. The country is not the property of anybody's father," said Mr Yadav, evoking wild applause. "Lalu had stopped the rath (chariot) of L K Advani. Now, the 'Mahagathbandhan', led by Nitish Kumar, will stop the rath of (Narendra Modi)," said the Bihar deputy CM. Referring to Mr Kumar's opposition unity drive, as part of which leaders of various parties a...

India: The transformation of Bihar’s Tejashwi Yadav

Tejashwi Yadav, 32, deputy chief minister of Bihar, was told by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi in jest to “focus on fitness and lose some weight” at a government function. Weeks later, Tejashwi, the son of the legendary Lalu Prasad Yadav, gained political heft and weight by allying with Nitish Kumar and forming the government. The loser was the BJP, which Kumar jettisoned to tie up with Tejashwi’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress party. Since 2017, when he first became deputy chief minister at 25 (youngest in India) as an overpowering symbol of dynasty and privilege, Yadav has come a long way as a leader. He has had some hard knocks in political life, which taught him life lessons. During his earlier stint in government, Tejashwi had a reputation for playing hooky from the office and going AWOL (absent without leave) to Delhi to meet his friends, much to the exasperation of his boss Nitish Kumar. Tejashwi was sticking to his pattern of bunking classes to play cricket during his days at the Delhi Public School. Tejashwi was obsessed with cricket. Yet, much like the start of his political tenure, he was always a twelfth man playing for the Delhi Daredevils in the 2008 Indian Premier League and Jharkhand. Tejashwi was a constant worry for his father Lalu, as he dropped out after school to focus on professional cricket, a move that hardly paid off. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav turned 76 on Sunday with his party deciding to celebrate the day as ‘social justice and sadbhavna diwas’ ( social justice and harmony day) by organising mass lunches for the poor at the district and block level as well as blood donation camps, said party functionaries. RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav celebrates his 76th birthday with his family in Patna on Sunday. (Twitter/Tejashwi Yadav) Bihar deputy chief minister and RJD chief’s younger son, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav shared some pictures of his father cutting a cake at midnight to celebrate his birthday on his Twitter handle. “Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to respected Lalu ji, an icon of social justice and a strong personality, who brought laurels to Bihar in the country and abroad,” he said. In the picture, Lalu wearing a grey T shirt and dhoti is seen cutting a cake flanked by his wife and former chief minister Rabri Devi, Tejaswhi, daughters including Misa Bharti and Rohini Archarya, Tejashwi’s wife Rajshree Yadav and Lalu’s grand children. Lalu, former chief minister and former railway minister, who is recovering from a kidney transplant conducted in December last year in Singapore, has restricted his public interactions after his return to Patna in the last week of April owing to medical reasons. Chargesheet against me possible before Opposition meet: Tejashwi Yadav

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday expressed apprehension that a chargesheet could be filed against him in cases investigated by central agencies, ahead of the Opposition meet scheduled here next week. The RJD leader was responding to queries from journalists about the arrest of a Tamil Nadu minister by the Enforcement Directorate, which has drawn sharp reaction from the JD(U) of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is convening the meeting. "I think we may see a spate of raids and arrests by these agencies in the run-up to the Opposition meeting... Though we will emerge stronger in the process,” Yadav said. "So far there has not been a chargesheet against me. But, now I will not be surprised if the agencies are made to come out with one soon,” he said. The 34-year-old has been named in land for hotels and land for jobs scams, both of which pertain to his father Lalu Prasad's tenure as the railway minister. Yadav has been accusing the ruling BJP at the Centre of misusing investigating agencies and, sarcastically, asking CBI and ED to open their offices at his residence. "I am sure these agencies must have lost count of the number of times they have been made to conduct searches against me and my close aides,” said Yadav.

Bihar bridge deliberately destroyed? Tejashwi Yadav says ‘serious defects found’

After an under-construction bridge over the Ganga river collapsed in Bihar on Sunday, deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav said that it was a planned demolition as experts had found ‘serious defects’ in its design, news agency PTI reported. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav addresses a workshop on the Road Safety Audit organised by Bihar Rural Roads Development, at Gyan Bhawan in Patna.(ANI) No casualties were reported in the incident. Addressing a press conference, Yadav along with additional chief secretary of road construction department, Pratyay Amrit, said that the decision was taken after a portion of the same bridge collapsed during a thunderstorm in 2022. The government had then assigned researchers at IIT-Roorkee to analyse the structure, he added. Amrit said that the government didn’t want to risk it by waiting for the final report before taking down parts of the ‘flawed’ bridge. Read: "It may be recalled that a portion of this bridge had collapsed on April 30 last year. I strongly raised it in my capacity as the then Leader of the Opposition. Upon coming to power, we ordered an inquiry and sought expert opinion…approached IIT-Roorkee, which is esteemed for its expertise in construction matters, to conduct a study. It is yet to come up with a final report but experts who had studied the structure had informed us that there were serious defects," Yadav said at the press conference. Once the final report comes, which is expected shortly, the state governme...
