Max temperature crosses 40°C, thunderstorms likely in 2 days

GURGAON: The temperature in the city is on a rising trend and the weather will continue to be hot and humid for the next few days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The city recorded a maximum temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius on Monday, 1.3 notches above Sunday's 38.9 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature on Monday rose to 28.7 degrees Celsius, 2.7 degrees more than Sunday's 26 degrees Celsius. It is likely to reach 32 degrees on Wednesday and may drop below 30 degrees after June 18, IMD said. "The weather has been dry in Haryana. Western disturbances and the cyclone Biparjoy will affect the weather in the state and thunderstorms and lightning are likely to be witnessed from June 14 to 16. The south westerly wind will bring in some relief, but no major charges will be observed. Sultry weather will continue," said Manmohan Singh, director of IMD, Chandigarh. The region witnessed unexpected showers in March and April, therefore the temperature was under 40 degrees Celsius. In April, the state received approximately 14.6mm rainfall, which is 54% of the normal precipitation, according to IMD data. Gurgaon, in April, received 10.7mm rainfall whereas the normal rainfall for this period is 7.7mm. This means 39% excess rainfall was seen this April.
