Sach Pass in October

A friend of mine recently sent me a few pictures of a group of guys who just made a trip to Sach Pass in October first week. I just wanted to share those pictures in the post below for anyone who is thinking of making this trip in next few days. You can see in the images below that there is a lot of snow and slush at the pass. Even though the road right now is open, It may close any time now and I think it is safe to say that this may not be the best time to visit Sach Pass. Sach Pass is usually the last one to open among them all and the first one to receive snow each year. While chances of snowfall at other passes starts after mid October; at Sach it can snow anytime after mid September. This year however was an entirely different story altogether. An early spell of snow all across the Himalayan region buried most of the areas of Lahaul, Spiti and Chandratal under a several feet of snow at higher areas. The effect can be seen at Sach Pass as well in the images below. Also Read: I did not click these photos and not claiming ownership of these. I am merely sharing the photos here as an FYI for anyone planning to go towards Sach this year. It cannot be considered as safe any longer and you are better off postponing the rip for next season. How to Plan a Trip to Sach Pass in October? On a general note though, for anyone wanting to go to Sach towards end of September or early October, there are a few things that must be kept in mind in order to ensure a safe and hassle free t...

Sach Pass (Dalhousie)

Travelled to this place on 12th May. Was pleasantly surprised to see it snow covered so much so that we couldnt reach the last point as the path was still being cleared. It was surreal to see snow covered hills, waterfalls and even a hut covered with fresh snow. Takes a while to reach , so make sure you start very early preferably with a car that has good ground clearance. Carry your ids as they are needed in the last check post near the pass. Shops for basic stuff (Chai/pani/maggi/omlette) is available till the main pass starts . There are a few basic hotels , may be around an hour an half drive from the pass region. Please donot visit this place at the very beginning of your trip , else everything else may look too ordinary :) I travelled end of May and was expecting to see some snow but was in for a deligful surpsie as it was snowing when I reached. The route is treacherous and quite taxing for a day trip from Dalhousie. I would recommend making it a 1.5 days trip by taking a stop over at one of the hotels enroute ( I noticed Sach pass hotel on way) and coming back next day A childhood dream came through as I had done my schooling in the same Distt and often heard about it. Got a chance in Sep 21 and managed a quick trip to Sach pass from Dalhousie. Breathtaking views and serene atmosphere added to the great road trip. We managed to reach just before the final light and came back in pitch dark. unfortunately at this time of the year no snow but hope to get back again to...
