Reacting to the legal notice served by the West Bengal police, Director Sanoj Mishra asserted that his film is based on facts. He also expressed his apprehension that the West Bengal police might arrest him and get him killed in the jail itself. Mishra also clarified that his intention is not to malign the image of the state.

Sanoj Mishra: हाल ही में फिल्म 'द डायरी ऑफ वेस्ट बंगाल' का ट्रेलर रिलीज होते ही विवादों में आ गया है। कोलकाता पुलिस ने फिल्म के निर्माता और निर्देशक के खिलाफ प्राथमिकी दर्ज की है। पुलिस का कहना है कि फिल्म के ट्रेलर ने विभिन्न समूहों के बीच दुश्मनी को बढ़ावा दिया है। अब इस सबके बीच में फिल्म के निर्देशक ने अपनी जान बचाने के लिए पीएम से गुहार लगाई थी। अब इसी क्रम में फिल्म 'द डायरी ऑफ वेस्ट बंगाल' पर विवाद खड़ा हो गया है। इस फिल्म के डायरेक्टर सनोज मिश्रा को डर सता रहा है कि उनकी जान खतरे में है और उन्होंने यह भी आरोप लगाया है कि उन्हें जेल भेजा जा सकता है, जहां उनकी हत्या हो सकती है। सनोज ने अपने सोशल मीडिया हैंडल पर एक पोस्ट साझा करते हुए लिखा, सिर्फ ट्रेलर के आधार पर मेरे खिलाफ एफआईआर दर्ज की गई है। अब मुझे जेल में डालकर मारा जा सकता है। इसके आगे सनोज मिश्रा ने यह भी कहा है कि अगर उन्हें बंगाल पुलिस के हवाले कर दिया गया तो इसका मतलब उनकी मौत है।

The 'Diary of West Bengal' director Sanoj Mishra has been served a notice under Section 41A of the CrPC and he has been asked to appear for questioning in Kolkata's Amherst Street Police Station on May 30. A case has also been registered by the West Bengal police against the film director under Sections 120B/153A/501/504/505/295A of the Indian Penal Code, 66D/84B Information Technology Act (2000) and Section 7 of the Cinematograph Act (1952). Director of 'The Diary of West Bengal' Sanoj Mishra summoned by Kolkata Police

By Saurabh Vaktania, Rajesh Saha: Director Sanoj Mishra has been summoned by the Kolkata police for questioning in a case filed against his film 'The Diary of West Bengal'. He has been asked to appear before the police for questioning on May 30. A written complaint was lodged against the movie at Amherst Street police station in Kolkata in May, as per police sources. Based on the complaint, a case was registered, alleging that the film tried to defame West Bengal. The legal notice, issued to Mishra, said that "there are reasonable grounds to question the director of the film to ascertain the facts and circumstances of this case." However, Mishra said that the case was filed to "harass" him. In its trailer, the film claimed that there were "mass murders, rapes and a Hindu exodus" occurring in West Bengal. It was also said that Bengal is the new Kashmir of India. Director Sanoj Mishra said, "I have made a movie based on facts. I urge the prime minister, home minister to intervene in the matter. There are a lot of mass murders, rapes and a Hindu exodus happening in West Bengal. I have done a lot of research and the movie is completely based on facts." The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday accused the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal administration of muzzling freedom of speech and expression by “intimidating” the director and producer of a controversial film targeting the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo.
