Amazon Prime Day got its start in 2015 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Amazon’s founding. It generally takes place in the middle of July. However, in 2020, it was Strictly speaking, Prime Day is not a “day,” but a two-day global deal marathon for Amazon Prime members. It lasted for 48 hours in 2019 and 2020, and for 36 hours in 2018. To take advantage of the deals, you must have a Prime membership by the time Prime day starts. Prime Day takes place all over the world in countries that offer Prime, including the U.S., Spain, Germany, Japan and more. Prime Day is a fast-moving beast. It offers many simultaneous discounts on products throughout the whole event, but also short-lived lightning deals (which appear and disappear at specific times). Some deals even begin weeks before. For example, in recent years, Amazon has slashed prices on some of its own Echo products a few days early to hype up consumers. In 2022, Prime Day is running on July 12 and 13. This year’s Prime Day is a few weeks later than it occurred last year, but it’s maintaining its summer timing, as opposed to during the height of the pandemic in 2020 when Amazon delayed the event until October. And if you’re in the market for toys, tech, home goods, or pretty much anything else, it may be one of the best times to save money outside of the Black Friday / Cyber Monday holiday shopping season. It’s almost a guarantee that we’ll see some of the lowest prices to date on Amazon’s own products, as well as discounts on an assortment of other tech. Is Amazon Prime Day Global? Info for International Prime Members

According to eMarketer data cited by Quartz, 65 percent of United States households are subscribed to Amazon Prime, and the rest of the world is catching up, too. By 2025, 300 million international households are expected to subscribe to Prime, compared to just over 50 million in 2016. And Prime Day only boosts that expansion, according to Quartz. In its press release, Amazon said that it will feature more than 2 million deals on Monday and Tuesday, but Prime members got a jump-start on the savings on June 2 when Amazon introduced early exclusive offers. Those deals including savings on JBL headphones, Fire TVs, LEGO products, Fisher-Price toys, Shark vacuums, DEWALT tools, GoWise air fryers, Le Creuset cast iron pots, Kleenex products, and Kindle books, in addition to deals on Amazon Music, Audible, Prime Gaming, and Wondery+. “Prime Day is a celebration of our Prime members, and we’re excited to bring members great deals across an incredible selection, whether members want to shop and save on top brands, buzzworthy items, or small business collections,” Jamil Ghani, vice president of Amazon Prime, said in the press release. “Since we launched Prime Day in 2015, it’s delivered great new ways to shop, gift, watch movies and TV, and even dance, and we’re excited to carry on that tradition.”
