His family has its roots in Australia from where his father moved to Singapore in the 1990s to work as an engineer. When Tim was two years old, his parents moved back to Australia amid the 1997 Asian financial crisis. Tim grew up in Perth, Australia. He did his schooling at Scotch College, Melbourne. Watching his father play cricket for Singapore national cricket team, fueled Tim’s passion for cricket. At the age of three, he accompanied his father at the Creswell Park and Belvista Oval where his father went on to play Fourth Grade cricket for Claremont-Nedlands Cricket Club (CNCC). In addition, His father also headed up the local MILO Have-A-Go youth cricket program. Talking about it in an interview, Tim said, That’s my earliest memory: being down at Creswell Park and Belvista Oval, which is our second ground, from when I was three years old.” At the age of 8, David started playing for Claremont-Nedlands Cricket Club’s (CNCC) Under-10 team. He progressed through the age-group system along with the likes of Joel Paris, Matt Kelly, Will Bosisto, and Durham opener Cameron Steel. T20 World Cup 2022

But David's is a strange entry into Australian colours because he's been up in lights on the big stage for some time already, yet apart from his two-month stint in the BBL, he is outside of the Australian cricket system. The way the sport's landscape is rapidly changing, he is unlikely to be the last to take this path. Some of his new team-mates are still to be introduced. David's body of work produced during his globe-trotting cannot be doubted. Of teams he has played more than two games for since December 2020 (when his T20 league career started to take off with Hobart Hurricanes) his lowest strike-rate is 143.92 with St Lucia Kings in the CPL. His strike-rate of 216.27 for Mumbai Indians in the last IPL made a mockery of him being left out during that competition. That latter figure also suggests he should not have too many concerns adapting to the conditions over the next week in India. The quality of the bowling may be a different challenge given that there is rarely a weaker link that is sometimes the case in franchise cricket, but he has a good grounding. "One of the rare things he has which there isn't a whole lot of in Australia is just raw power," Glenn Maxwell said. "He's able to muscle the ball, much in the same way Stoinis and Mitch Marsh do it. He's probably developed his game a little bit over the last two years where he's got a bit more off-side [shots] so he's not a one-dimensional hitter, he's able to clear the boundary in different areas. He does it agai...

Tim started playing seriously when he was eight, and at 19, he played in the Northeast Premier League in England, amassing 963 runs at 53.50 to become the leading run-getter for the year (2015). The same year, he played on the Under-19 circuit in Australia for Western Australia, but didn't get much success; it was better when he got to the Under-23s in 2018, as he scored 411 runs in five matches at 45.66, which earned him a ticket to the BBL with the Perth Scorchers. As he explained to ESPNcricinfo, after playing for the Scorchers in 2018 and then having a rookie contract for 2018-19 with Western Australia, David did try to continue playing in Australia. But after Western Australia delisted him in April 2019 and then the Scorchers didn't offer him a contract, David returned to Singapore. "Of course, I have the ambition to play for Australia," David told ESPNcricinfo. "If that opportunity comes up, then I would love to take that. But, at the moment, I am happy playing for Singapore. There are some very important tournaments coming up and it's been an important part of my development so far, and I am looking forward to being a part of it going forward. How did the Lahore Qalandars move happen? The target was a hard-hitting middle-order batter who was good against spin, and would be available for the Abu Dhabi leg of PSL 2021. The two shortlisted candidates were Jack Wildermuth and David. David's game against spin impressed the Qalandars' team management enough for the deal t...

Why Chris Licht Really Failed at CNN

The precipitous fall of Chris Licht is just the sort of story that today’s cable-news environment is best at covering: dramatic, messy, lurid, and ultimately lacking in much substance. Licht was pushed out of CNN today, five days after my colleague Tim Alberta wrote a But the real reason Licht failed was not the way he executed his job but the way he conceived it in the first place. He wanted to turn CNN back into the neutral arbiter of truth that it once was (or seemed to be) without understanding that such a role is impossible in today’s fractured, polarized cable-news environment. “He was dealt a bad hand, and then he played it badly,” as one of his friends Licht was not wrong to see serious problems at CNN. During the 2016 presidential campaign, the network unwittingly boosted Donald Trump by providing wall-to-wall coverage. Once Trump was in office, CNN switched gears, becoming fiercely critical of the president. Many of the criticisms were correct, though sometimes they were also histrionic and self-absorbed, Licht was betting that by neutralizing the most fiercely anti-Trump voices at CNN—firing people such as Stelter and John Harwood, and clamping down on Jim Acosta and Don Lemon—he could return the network to the neutral center. CNN wouldn’t hesitate to call out Trump’s lies, but it wouldn’t pose as the resistance either. This not only would be good for its journalism, he wagered, but would also reclaim the huge, underserved center in the media audience. But Licht...
