Taxpayers can claim any excess tax payment by submitting an income tax return (ITR) to the Income Tax (I-T) department before the last date. This time, those who submitted income tax returns for FY 2021–22 have now either received or are expecting their ITR refunds since the due date for ITRs for assessment year (AY) 2022–23 has passed. The taxpayers whose income tax returns need to be audited have the deadline October 31, 2022. Taxpayers who have submitted their ITRs for AY 2022-23, whose ITRs do not require auditing, are therefore allowed for an ITR refund. After 10 days from filing ITR, taxpayers become eligible to check their ITR refund status online. It is a state of reimbursement issued to a taxpayer when they have paid higher tax than their assessed liability in the given financial year.
