You can make the items transparent in a variety of ways. For example, you can vary the opacity from 100% (completely opaque) to 0% (completely transparent). When you decrease opacity, the underlying artwork becomes visible through the surface of the object, stroke, fill, or text. You use the Effects panel to specify the opacity an object, its stroke, its fill, or its text, You can decide how the object itself, its stroke, fill, or text blend with objects beneath. Where objects are concerned, you can choose to isolate blending to specific objects so that only some objects in a group blend with objects below them, or you can have objects knock out rather than blend wi...

Why is the Effects Panel Grayed Out?

When you try to apply transparency effects to a text frame, you may occasionally see all the controls of the Effects panel are grayed out. This can be caused by two things: 1. You have your cursor in the text frame. If this is the case, press ESC to select the frame and make the effects controls available. 2. You have selected the frame and Formatting Affects Text (the T button) in the Swatches panel or the Tools panel. In this case, press the Formatting Affects Container button, or use the keyboard shortcut,j. To apply effects to text you must have the frame selected. Then either target the Text level in the Effects panel: Or if the text frame has no fill, you can apply effects at the Object level and they’ll appear on the text. If you later decide to give the frame a fill, you can easily apply the effects to the text by dragging the FX icon from the Object level to the Text level. I had an email exchange on this subject with one of the ID engineers a couple of years back. He explained that the problem (assuming you consider it one — I did) is with the InDesign DOM, and which properties and methods are exposed depending on what is currently targeted. It made sense, and my right index finger has become quite used to that J key. :-) Show a little respect: When discussing potential wedding proposals, you’ll probably meet countless people who think asking her parents for her hand is lame and outmoded. They are leaving their business within a couple of months because they woul...

Applying WordArt Text Effects

Buy Applying WordArt Text Effects You can change the look of WordArt text by applying effects, such as shadows, reflections, glow, soft edges, 3-D rotations, and transformations. You can apply effects to a shape by using the Text Effects gallery for quick results. From the Text Effects gallery you can apply a built-in combination of 3-D effects or individual effects to WordArt text. To quickly see if you like the effect, point to a thumbnail in the Text Effects gallery to display a live preview of it. If you like it, you can apply it. If you no longer want to apply the effect, you can remove it. Simply, select the WordArt text, point to the effect type on the Text Effects gallery, and then select the No effect type option. Apply an Effect to WordArt Text • Click the WordArt object you want to change. • Click the Format tab under Drawing or WordArt Tools. • Click the Text Effects button. • For Word, use the Shadow Effects and 3D Effects buttons. • Point to one of the following: • Shadow to select No Shadow, one of the shadow types, or Shadows Options. • Reflection to select No Reflection, one of the Reflection Variations, or Reflection Options. • Glow to select No Glow, one of the Glow Variations, More Glow Colors, or Glow Options. • Bevel to select No Bevel, one of the bevel variations, or 3-D Options. • 3-D Rotation to select No Rotation, one of the rotation types, or 3-D Rotation Options. • Transform to select No Transform, or one of the transform types (Follow Path or ...

Animate or make words appear one line at a time

Make text appear one line at a time • On the slide, select the box that contains your text. • Select the Animations tab, and then pick an animation, such as Appear, Fade In, or Fly In. For some animations, such as Fly In, select Effects Options, as you’ll need to pick a direction for the bullets to fly in from, such as bottom, top, left, or right. • Select Effect Options, and then select By Paragraph to make the paragraphs of text appear one at a time. (The other option, All at Once, makes all the lines of text appear at the same time.) PowerPoint immediately previews the animation for you. By default, when you present in Slide Show, each paragraph appears in response to a click. That way, you control when each paragraph appears. You can modify this setting by using the Start, Duration, and Delay controls on the far right end of the Animation tab of the ribbon. Make text appear one letter at a time You can also create a "typing" visual effect by making characters in a paragraph appear one at a time. • On the slide, select the box that contains your text. • Select the Animations tab, and then select the Add Animation drop-down menu to select an animation, such as Appear. • Select the Animations tab, and then select Animation pane. The Animation Pane opens on the right side of the PowerPoint window. • In the Animation Pane, select the arrow next to your animation, and select Effect Options. • In the dialog box, on the Effect tab under Enhancements, select the arrow next to A...
