Kerala Schools, Colleges closed tomorrow in 7 districts due to heavy rains

As per local media reports, an orange alert has been issued for Thrissur and Malappuram. Everyone is informed that till now, a holiday has been declared only for the seven regions mentioned above. While bad weather conditions are predicted for several areas, till now, there are no updates on a holiday for schools and colleges.

Schools, colleges shut in Kerala as IMD issues red alert. Exams to continue as scheduled

All educational institutions will remain shut tomorrow, August 2, in Kerala, with the state besieged by incessant rains. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the seven districts in the state for today and tomorrow. In fact, in the Pathanamthitta and Kollam districts, schools and colleges remained shut today, August 1, as well due to rains. This order applies to professional colleges as well, said the Thiruvananthapuram District Collector Geromic George. However, exams will proceed as scheduled. The red alert has been issued by the IMD in the Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts not only for today and tomorrow but also for August 4, along with two more districts. Four people were reported dead in the state in the last two days due to the rain and a night travel ban has been issued in the Idukki district. According to a release by the Chief Minister's office, a meeting has been called between the District Collectors and CM Pinayari Vijayan to assess the damage caused by the rains. The Disaster Management Authority has warned people against venturing out near water bodies and avoiding travel as much as possible. On Sunday, July 31, two tourists from Tamil Nadu were washed away at the Kumbhavurutty Falls in the Kollam district due to flash floods. One of them has died and the other is injured.

Heavy rains lash Kerala's Idukki district, holiday declared for educational institutions

For the last four days, the Idukki district in Kerala has been lashed with rains. While the heavy rains continued on Wednesday, June 6, trees were uprooted due to gusts of winds and these winds triggered mudslides in many locations on the Kochi-Dhanushkodi National Highway and several parts of Idukki, as stated in a report by The New Indian Express. Considering the heavy rains and the IMD's (Indian Meteorological Department) alert, Idukki District Collector Sheeba George issued an order declaring a holiday for schools and professional institutions in the Idukki district on Thursday, July 7. It is said that the holiday applies to educational institutions, professional colleges, nurseries and Angawadis. Additionally, in the estate areas of the district, the Collector imposed a ban on the employment of labourers, as stated in a report by Onmanorama. Similarly, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kodagu, Karnataka, Sateesha BC, announced a holiday for Anganwadis, schools and colleges on July 6 as the district was on orange alert for July 5 and July 6. It may be recalled that the Hebri Taluk in Karnataka was getting good rainfall too, hence, ADC Veena BN had declared a holiday for Anganwadis, schools, PU and degree colleges on July 5.

There will be holiday for educational institutions in 12 districts of Kerala on Wednesday in view of heavy rains which continue to lash the state. The district collectors have declared holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, in Kozhikode, Kollam, Thrissur, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Idukki, Palakkad, Pathanamthitta, Wayanad, Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam districts on Wednesday, the respective district collectors said on Tuesday. In Thrissur, examinations will take place as scheduled earlier. Heavy rain: Holiday for educational institutions in 3 districts today

Thiruvananthapuram: In view of heavy rain persisting in the state for the past few days and with no signs of abating, several districts in Kerala have declared a holiday for educational institutions on Friday. While Kasaragod and Kannur have declared a state-wide holiday, this is restricted to just Devikulam Taluk in Idukki. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan cautioned people living in hilly areas in view of the IMD declaring a Yellow alert. "There are reports that the water level in Kadalundi, Bharathapuzha, Shiriya, Karavannur, and Gayathri rivers of northern Kerala is rising. Similarly, the water level in Vamanapuram, Neyyar, Karamana, Kallada, Manimala and Meenachil rivers is also rising," Vijayan said.
