Assembly Constituencies in India

About Legislative Assembly A legislative assembly or Vidhan Sabha is a legislative body in a state of India. It is the lower house of a state legislature (The legislative council is the upper house in those states which have bicameral legislature). The Vidhan Sabha is the assembly comprising the members elected directly by the people of the state through adult electoral suffrage. Through the elections to the legislative assembly, the state’s Chief Minister, his Council of Ministers and rest of the MLAs are elected. There is no uniform number of seats allocated to state assemblies; it differs from state to state. The number of seats for a particular assembly is fixed and decided by the Election Commission of India on the basis of the population of the respective states. For instance, the legislative assembly of Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of assembly seats with 404 because the state's population is also the highest amongst all the Indian states. Similarly, the legislative assembly of Sikkim has merely 32 seats owing to its small population. Qualification for Membership of the Vidhan Sabha A person seeking membership of the Vidhan Sabha must possess the following qualifications: 1. He must be a citizen of India. 2. He must not be less than 25 years of age. 3. He must have a sound mind. 4. He must not have any criminal record declared by a competent court. 5. He must not be bankrupt. 6. He should be a voter from any constituency of the concerned state. Presiding Offi...

The State Assembly on Monday passed a Bill to give effect to the announcements made by the erstwhile AIADMK regime last year, including the increase in monthly pension to former legislators from ₹20,000 to ₹25,000. Although the announcement was made in March last year by the AIADMK government, it had not tabled a Bill to give effect to the announcement. The Bill was introduced by Minister Duraimurugan (also holding legislature portfolio) in the House in line with the announcement made in this regard by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin earlier during this session. On March 24 last year, the then Chief Minister announced that the the lump sum allowance payable to the family of an MLA would be enhanced from ₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh. He announced that the pension payable to former MLAs and former MLCs would be enhanced from ₹20,000 to ₹25,000. The family pension payable to the legal heir of the deceased MLAs and MLCs would be enhanced from ₹10,000 to ₹12,500, the Chief Minister had announced: “The above monetary benefits will be given with effect from April 1, 2020.” The sitting and former members of the Legislative Assembly and former members of the Legislative Council, while travelling along with spouse or companion in any air conditioned bus by any transport corporation owned by the State Government, a sleeper facility shall be provided to such members and a seating facility shall be provided to the spouse or companion in that bus, he had announced. President of India 2022: 126 MLAs across 18 states and 17 MPs cross

NEW DELHI: President-elect Droupadi Murmu had always looked set for a comfortable win because of NDA’s strength and the support it had secured for her from regional parties, but the scale of her victory became bigger because of the number of votes she managed to secure from the opposition column. The final tally shows that as many as 126 MLAs spread across 18 states and 17 MPs defied diktats of their respective parties to vote for her, something which appears significant because of the polarised political milieu and opposition’s attempt to turn the Presidential contest into a battle of ideologies. President of India 2022: Droupadi Murmu elected first tribal President of India, second woman to assume nation's top office NDA’s presidential nominee Droupadi Murmu on Thursday became the first tribal woman to be elected as President of India by defeating her rival, opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha, by a margin of 947 votes, bagging 64.03% of the electoral college votes against Sinha’s share of 35.97%. The outcome, while underlining NDA’s dominance and superior managerial skills also provides, perhaps, the first hint of the emergence of a tribal constituency. Seen in conjunction with Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren’s late swinger in favour of the fellow Santhal, the bonus votes obviously pleased NDA managers. “Under the leadership of Modiji, I express my gratitude to NDA allies, other political parties and independent people’s representatives for voting in favor of Tribal Pride Smt...

The total value of votes of MLAs is 5,43,231 in 16 th presidential election which is scheduled to be held on July 18. The total value of votes of MPs is 5,43,200.
