2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara vs Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder: Differences In Detailed Images

The most noticeable difference between the two SUVs is at the front. Starting with the Maruti Grand Vitara, you get a fairly chunky front grille, with the NEXA-style LED DRLs being a part of NEXA’s ‘Crafted Futurism’ design language. There’s also a chrome strip connecting the LED DRLs. As for the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the air dams are a fair bit larger, reminiscent of the Glanza, with the chrome strip and LED DRLs a fair bit slimmer. The Maruti Grand Vitara gets nine colour choices, including six monotone and three dual-tone options. They include: NEXA Blue, Arctic White, Splendid Silver, Grandeur Grey, Chestnut Brown, Opulent Red, Arctic White with Black, Splendid Silver with Black and Opulent Red with Black. As for the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, there are 11 colour options with seven monotone and four dual-tone shades. They include Cafe White, Gaming Grey, Enticing Silver, Sportin Red, Midnight Black, Cave Black, Speedy Blue, Sporting Red with Black, Enticing Silver with Black Speedy Blue with Black and Cafe White with Black. The differences are even harder to notice inside with the layout as well as the soft-touch materials on the dashboard pretty much being identical in the two compact SUVs. But the Vitara’s mild-hybrid variants get a dual-tone black and bordeaux (maroon) interior theme, with the Hyryder getting an all-black finish. In the case of the strong-hybrid trims, the Vitara gets an all-black theme with champagne gold accents, while the Hyryder featu...

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Review: A Hybrid For The Masses

Finally, a mass model from Toyota that drives in with its much touted and globally acclaimed hybrid tech, in a more accessible way. So far, we’d gotten cars like the Prius, the Camry, and the Vellfire, but now the hybrid drive goes mass, with the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Also Read: 2022 Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hybrid SUV Unveiled; Bookings Open Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Design The compact SUV buyers really want their new vehicle to look like an SUV. So, the ample proportions on the Hyryder will really sit well with them. The car looks nice and modern, and hence very contemporary. There’s also a lot of talk about how the Hyryder has a lot in common with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, so let's get that out of the way. Yes, certain body panels and especially the side profile will remind you of that car, but it's the face where I really like the typical Toyota design language that shows up the slim DRLs and the headlight down below. It’s even evident in the way the front wheel has been finished; it’s very much in line with the SUV styling for Toyota models worldwide. The hybrid badging along the side is also something that you see on all Toyota models and the two-tone roof, especially with a speedy blue colour, looks really good. Now the dual tone will be available only on 4 of the 7 body colours offered on the Hyryder. Certain body panels will remind you of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, but it's the face where the typical Toyota design language shows up. At the rear,...

New Toyota Hyryder 2022: Observations after a day of driving

Driving the Urban Cruiser Hyryder 1.5L Hybrid Toyota's focus was on the hybrid. Hence, it had only that engine option for us to drive. The hybrid powertrain consists of a 3-cylinder 1.5-litre petrol engine with an output of 91 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 122 Nm @ 4,400 rpm. This petrol engine is coupled with an electric motor that puts out 79 BHP and 141 Nm. The combined power output available at the wheels is 114 BHP. The figures aren't impressive when compared to the turbo petrol engines used by the Koreans and Europeans and that is reflected out on the road as well. The USP of the hybrid is fuel efficiency and not performance. There is a 0.76 kWh battery in the boot that powers the electric motors and is responsible for the drive to the wheels in hybrid mode. The battery specifications are very similar to the Honda City Hybrid, which means you can't really use the Hyryder in EV mode for more than a couple of minutes before the internal combustion engine kicks in to assist. Surprisingly, the Hyryder uses a Li-ion battery vs the Camry which gets a Ni-Mh unit. Li-ion batteries are superior and have a longer life than Ni-Mh batteries. The Hyryder, unlike the City Hybrid, uses a more conventional hybrid system using a power split device as well as an e-CVT transmission that combines the power from the petrol and electric motors. There is no clever drive lock system like in the City here. As a result, the Hyryder feels like a regular CVT to drive with some correlation between speed a...

Toyota Hyryder Strong Hybrid's self

The launch of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is just around the corner, and the SUV has already created a lot of buzz for offering a segment-first self-charging full-hybrid powertrain option. While its distant cousin, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara also gets the same powertrain, it is the Urban Cruiser Hyryder which will arrive earlier. There’s a lot of curiousness around this full-hybrid technology, and Toyota has simplified the working of the system through a video. In a YouTube video uploaded by Toyota India, we can see the full operation of a self-charging hybrid electric vehicle, which has been shown with the help of a simulator. This vehicle has two power sources, a petrol-powered engine and a high voltage battery, that supplies power to a motor. There are two motor generators available in the vehicle, along with an inverter and converter assembly. With this simulator, Toyota shows how the different functions of the self-charging hybrid electric vehicle work in life. The first feature of this powertrain is an idle start-stop system. Whenever the vehicle comes to a halt, the engine and the motor also stop working, thus preventing the wastage of fuel and electric power and contributing to the overall fuel efficiency of the vehicle. If the vehicle is driven at a slow speed, the power from the high voltage battery is used by the motor to drive...

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder First Drive Review: Redefining the hybrid life

Toyota, the global leader in hybrid technology, has decided to make its presence felt in the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment. For the first time, this technology will be available in a mass market segment. Meet the all-new Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. There was some confusion about whether the new SUV is a hybrid version of the sub-4 metre Urban Cruiser due to the similar name, but the Hyryder is one segment above its sibling and will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the likes. Toyota is trying to establish the nameplate Urban Cruiser like the iconic Land Cruiser, which offers different types of SUVs under the brand like the Prado. The ace in the pack is that due to the global partnership between Suzuki and Toyota, both companies will leverage each other’s strengths. Along with the hybrid tech, Toyota will manufacture both the Hyryder and upcoming Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara at their Bidadi plant near Bengaluru. In return, the vehicles will be based on components from Maruti, who are masters in keeping everything cost-effective yet reliable. So will this be a result of what happens when an immovable meets an unstoppable force? We shall find out. 2022 Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder: Design Toyota has gone with a split headlamp set-up which is seen in many new SUVs. With the LED DRLs splitting into two with a chrome strip in between and a faux carbon fibre front nose, the Hyryder showcases new styling elements that would be seen on upcoming electric vehicles.
