20 years of Trisha: How life comes full circle with Kundavai and ‘Ponniyin Selvan’

20 years of Trisha: How life comes full circle with Kundavai and ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ Trisha looks back at completing two decades in films, some of her iconic characters, and on Kundavai in Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus being a ‘woman of today set in the 10th century’ September 22, 2022 09:09 am | Updated 09:25 am IST A few weeks back, a short video clip from 2000 suddenly went viral on Twitter; that of a teenage Trisha — fresh from being crowned Miss Chennai — appearing on a talk show hosted by actor Yugi Sethu. A 12th grader at Church Park, Trisha, who was all of 17 back then, looks aghast when asked about films. “No, no, not all! That is not my cup of tea. I’m going to stick to modelling at most; I’m very sure I won’t get into acting.” 22 years and 50-odd films later, she is most amused when reminded of that first interview. “That really was my state of mind. My family wasn’t keen on me setting foot into the film industry. In fact, that was their only condition when I started modelling; that I shouldn’t become an actor. This just goes to show how the best laid plans…” Trisha grins. Today, she has sustained two decades in films as a leading actor with proven mettle and box-office success across languages. From her debut in Mounam Pesiyadhe (2002) opposite Suriya, to now headlining Mani Ratnam’s all-star cast of Ponniyin Selvan (2022), Trisha’s really been there and done it all. Trisha with her co-star Karthi at the ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ audio launch Her ubiquitous popularity still ...

On October 26th, producers of the storied Austin television show "Austin City Limits" will induct country singer Trisha Yearwood and the late folk artist John Prine into the "Austin City Limits" Hall of Fame. The two artists will be celebrated in a star-studded ceremony at ACL Live. Performing artists, presenters and special guests for the ceremony will be announced closer to the event. (Worth noting: It would not be shocking to see Yearwood's husband Garth Brooks pop up on the lineup.) Tickets will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. on June 23 at What is the "Austin City Limits" Hall of Fame? Austin's signature television series is in the process of taping artists for its 49th season. As the show ticks closer and closer to its half-century mark, it is the longest-running music television program in history. In 2014, "ACL" producers created the Hall of Fame to honor artists who have left an indelible mark on the show. The inaugural class of inductees featured Austin legends Willie Nelson (who played the show's pilot on Oct. 17, 1974) and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Other artists in the "ACL" Hall of Fame include Bonnie Raitt, B.B. King, Flaco Jiménez and Townes Van Zandt. When did Trisha Yearwood and John Prine play "Austin City Limits"? “Appearing on Austin City Limits for the first time in 1992 was a rite of passage for me as an artist. After watching all of my heroes grace that stage, walking onto it myself was a spiritual experience," Yearwood said in a news release a...

Daytime chat show hosted by Trisha Goddard (replacing Vanessa - hosted by Vanessa Feltz). Initially, like its predecessor, focusing on light-hearted debate but then switched to dealing with guests problems. Until I saw this show I thought the Vicky Pollard character from "Little Britain" was exaggerated. Little did I realize how close to reality it was. When you see a few episodes of "Trisha" you get the impression that every teenager in Britain is a loutish, binge-drinking, drug-addicted gang leader with an attitude. (I'm sure it can't be like that in real life. It can't be!) For some reason other people's problems tend to attract audiences. On "Trisha" an attempt is made to talk about whatever problem the guest has (it usually involves alcohol) and hopefully reach a resolution. There are the options of boot camp or a makeover. Trisha Goddard is a good presenter with a warm, friendly personality. When she lived in Australia she was in the children's programme "Play School". She understands kids. In the ...
