Fee Waivers and Exemptions The president or the president’s designee is authorized to waive tuition and fees in accordance with the Florida Statutes and Florida Board of Education Rules. To the extent required by law, registration fees (defined to include all fees normally collected as part of the registration process) willnot be assessed for those categories of students specifically exempted by Florida Statutes and Florida Board of EducationRules, including students enrolled under dual enrollment and earlyadmission agreements between the college and the schooldistricts in its service area. (Florida Statutes 1001.64, 1009.23, 1009.25, 1009.26, 1009.27, 1010.03, 1011.83; FloridaAdministrative Code 6A-14.054; CF Board Policy 5.08) Third-party Authorization If all or part of registration fees are being paid by an external agency which requires billing (employer, Florida Prepaid Program, Vocational Rehabilitation, Career Source, a government agency orout-of-state 529 plan, etc.), the student is responsible for communicating with their agency representative to determine if the agency will notify the college of their intent to pay or if it will be thestudent’s responsibility for notification. State Tuition Waiver We offer educational assistance to full-time, salaried employees by allowing each state university and state college to waive tuition and fees for employees for up to six credit hours per semester on a space-available basis. The tuition waiver program may be used for up to 18 hours per calendar year (January 1 - December 31). The state university or state college determines whether your courses are eligible for the fee waiver. In addition, you must meet all the academic and admission requirements for the school and you must register during the special registration periodthe state university or state college sets aside for state employees. Choose courses: • Graduate or undergraduate programs. Check with the school to see if certain courses or programs are excluded. • Related or unrelated to your work for the state. • Held during or outside of your work hours. (Taking a course during your normal work hours requires supervisor approval and you must make up the time missed from work or use approved annual, compensatory leave or paid educational leave.) The state allows up to $5,250 in educational assistance per year, with no tax liability to you. Assistance over $5,250 is reportable to the IRS and subject to taxes.
