2005-batch IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe has been transferred once again by the Maharashtra government. But no posting has been given to him. He was given charge of the National Health Mission just two months ago after being transferred, but now, he has been transferred yet again. With this transfer, he has been transferred for the 19th time in the last 16 years. He belongs to Tadsona village of Beed district of Maharashtra. He is known for his honesty and bravery in the bureaucratic circles as well as among the common people. Those who know him say that he has always stood against evil since childhood. Not only this, whenever he is transferred, he leaves his own mark in the place he leaves behind. Also, due to his unique style of working, he easily becomes the favorite of the public, whereas, for criminals, he is enemy number one. Health activists demand reinstatement of Tukaram Mundhe as NHM director

After Tukaram Mundhe was shunted within just two months of taking charge as the director of the National Health Mission (NHM), health activists are appealing to citizens to send more than a lakh emails to the Chief Minister demanding the reinstatement of Mundhe as the commissioner of NHM, Maharashtra. Tukaram Mundhe had also issued a circular to health department staffers regarding office discipline. (HT file photo) In an official transfer order issued on November 30, Mundhe was ordered to hand over his charge to the principal secretary, State Health Department. After taking office in October, the feted bureaucrat directed district health officers, civil surgeons, and deputy directors of health across Maharashtra to conduct surprise visits to primary health care centres and rural hospitals to ensure that staff were present and that emergencies were being attended to late at night. Mundhe had also issued a circular to health department staffers regarding office discipline. The circular stated that wages of health department staffers will not be paid unless the days worked are verified as per the biometric attendance system installed in the department.
