TVS Raider Review

Has TVS made a strong comeback into the 125cc segment with the sporty Raider? After staying out of the 125cc segment for almost four years, TVS has made a comeback. This move from TVS doesn’t come as a surprise as motorcycle prices have skyrocketed over the past few years, and the 125cc segment still offers a good balance of performance and fuel efficiency while being relatively affordable. TVS’ comeback vehicle is the new Raider, and the Hosur-based two-wheeler giant is focusing on the premium end of the 125cc segment. The Raider will be offered in two variants, with the base drum brake variant priced at Rs 77,500 (ex-showroom). We got to spend some time with the new TVS Raider at the company’s test track and here’s what we liked and what we didn’t in the new TVS 125cc bike. Things we liked Styling The TVS Raider is focused towards college students and young professionals, so the styling had to be sporty. And for the most part, the TVS designers have nailed it and the bike features a sharp LED headlight, reminiscent of the first-gen Apache RTR 200 4V. Even the fuel tank is muscular and sports sharp tank extensions. My favourite design element, though, is the centre panel with a cutout that gives a peek of the monoshock. Although the Raider eschews body graphics, the dual-tone finish makes it look sporty and attractive. The overall quality, as expected from a TVS product, is top notch; the panel gaps are tight, and the switchgear is definitely the best in the 125cc segment...

TVS Raider: All You Need To Know

The headlamp on the TVS Raider looks quirky and may get a polarising opinion, but the rest of the design is quite likeable especially the bulging fuel tank Design The TVS Raider is a good-looking motorcycle. And considering the segment it sits on, it's perhaps one of the more stylish, premium and sporty looking products in its class. The new headlight with the rather noticeable LED DRL (daytime running light) remains the highlight; a little over-the-top, but definitely worth noticing. Also Read: The 17-inch alloy wheels look nice, while the swanky LED taillight add a touch too The overall design, with a sculpted fuel tank with sharp creases, add muscle to the design, and looks more in line with the styling of 150 cc motorcycles than a 125. A LED taillight, with a more toned down tail section completes the design. It's a handsome looking bike, and certainly looks upmarket. The Raider is available in a choice of four colours, Fiery Yellow, Striking Red, Blazing Blue and Wicked Black. Engine & Performance The Raider is powered by an all-new 124.8 cc, air and oil-cooled, three-valve engine, which produces 11.2 bhp at 7,500 rpm and 11.2 Nm at 6,000 rpm, and comes with a 5-speed gearbox. Acceleration from 0 to 60 kmph is at a claimed 5.9 seconds. The TVS Raider 125 gets the LCD screen as standard, while the SmartXonnect feature will be available on a higher variant Tech & Ergonomics The bike also gets two riding modes, Eco and Power, with Power mode said to offer 10 per cent mor...

TVS Raider: A stylish, feature

At first glance, the new TVS Raider could be mistaken for a 150cc or 160cc machine. The 125cc bike has a sense of presence you do not expect from machines in this segment and the design is quite likeable. Its sharp looking LED headlamp with a striking set of DRLs is easier on the eye than the quirky headlamp on the bigger RTRs. Then there is the large, sculpted fuel tank that looks like it came from a bigger bike. TVS has added smaller touches in the form of small silver-coloured tank shrouds and a belly pan. Split seats add to its sporty stance, but the rear section is a little more straightforward with a large and practical grab rail and a couple of neat LED brake lamps. There are four colours available including black, an interesting dark blue and a nice shade of red. The overall design is something you would expect to see in a segment above and apart from the handsome, but aged Pulsars, the TVS Raider is the most sporty looking of the 125 commuters. The good news keeps coming when you sit on the bike. There is no boring commuter riding position here and TVS has injected a dash of sportiness into the foot peg position along with the mild lean forward to the handlebar. It is still nice and comfortable and the seat to foot peg ratio is not as cramped as on the bigger Apache RTRs. The split seats are quite large, nicely padded and there is enough room for bigger riders as well. Shorter riders won’t feel left out either, thanks to the friendly 780mm seat height. The company...

TVS Raider 125 First Ride Review: Can it ‘Shine’ with all that ‘Glamour’?

TVS never really had a great time in the 125cc motorcycle segment. Speaking of which, the Victor GLX 125, Flame and the Phoenix 125 have been quite decent motorcycles but these didn’t manage to attract many customers. And which is why, despite the fact that the 125cc bike segment is a volume churning one, TVS has been absent from this space for the last four years. Now, taking learnings from its failures over the years, the company has now re-entered the said space with its latest offering – the Raider 125. We recently rode it at the company’s very own test track in Hosur to find out if this bike can change the fortunes of TVS in the 125cc motorcycle space. TVS Raider 125 – Design and Features Creta rival Citroen C3 Aircross: Disruptor in the making? If you look at the last few years, TVS has been making quite aspirational products in terms of design and the Raider 125 is no different. Upfront, the bike gets an all-LED headlamp with cross-styled LED DRLs and these should look good in the dark. The fuel tank of the bike is well chiselled and thanks to the sharp character lines and a dual-tone treatment, it looks quite appealing too. The Raider 125 gets a split step-up seat set up and the only other bikes to offer this in the segment are the Pulsar NS125 and Duke 125. Overall, the bike looks quite proportionate but you may feel that the rear tyre looks skinny against the rather decent proportions of this motorcycle. The fit and finish and the attention to detail are great, s...
