Milling Science & Management

Milling Science and Management For more than a hundred years, Kansas State University has provided the world with unparalleled expertise in flour milling. In 1905, J.T. Willard set up a small mill in the corner of a chemistry laboratory, and from that small beginning, we've grown into a program that offers the only four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Milling Science and Management. Each year, we place a new group of well-educated graduates in a variety of high-salary careers. Major corporations like General Mills and Sara Lee come to campus, along with milling companies and other businesses involved in grain processing and use, to compete for our students. The K-State campus houses a number of modern laboratories, including both commercial and pilot-scale flour mills and analytical equipment for testing various properties of grain throughout the flour milling and separation processes. These laboratories serve both students and industry in training and research efforts. The art and business of milling have changed tremendously in the past century, and so have we. In fact, our faculty and students have led many of these changes, developing patented technologies and new techniques, and innovative business practices. In the coming century, milling will certainly see even more changes, and our department will be on the forefront, at the proverbial grindstone, leading the way. However, the doctoral degree was conferred by LaSalle University in Louisiana, a diploma mill that was once raided by the FBI and accused of defrauding students. Buck stands by his dissertation, saying he did the work to earn his academic degree. But he removed the Ph.D. next to his name (bottom image) after the Tampa Bay Times inquired about his degree. The Republican is challenging U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, D-St. Petersburg, in Florida's 13th Congressional district. [Screenshot] Published July 13, 2018 The three letters were displayed prominently on George Buck's campaign website, right after his name: Ph.D. Check his campaign finance records and those, too, display his doctorate. There's no question that Buck, a Republican primary candidate for U.S. House District 13 — the seat currently held by incumbent Democrat Charlie Crist — received a doctoral degree. However, there are questions about the legitimacy of the school that conferred it. Buck, 62, went to LaSalle University, a defunct correspondence school in Louisiana — not the private ...

Tuition, Fees and Financing – USAT

USAT strives to set tuition and fees that are affordable, such that the recent graduate is unlikely to become inundated by a mountain of debt, and can therefore anticipate beginning their new career with zero or minimal outstanding educational debt. In order to accomplish this objective, USAT locks the tuition rate in place on the day of matriculation for the remainder of the student’s academic career at USAT. In addition, all fees are clearly spelled out in the letter offer of admission, and are honored by the University thereafter assuming uninterrupted study. Moreover, there are no hidden fees, special examination fees, or other unanticipated University fees applied after official matriculation. This enables students to better plan and budget for their educational expenses. This tuition policy is uncommon among most educational institutions; many of them will increase tuition periodically during the course of study. Application Fee: $125.00 Non-refundable. Matriculation Fee: $600.00 This fee is to be paid by all students after an offer of acceptance is received, and prior to the start of instruction. Once submitted it will assure the seat is reserved until the first day of class. This fee is non-refundable. Tuition: $5,490.00 per 16 week semester for basic sciences, and $5,490.00 per 12 week block of clinical training. Note: clinical training fees do not include individual hospital fees for costs such as application or mentor reimbursement costs. Graduation Fee: $900.00...

Accreditation for Online Colleges: How Do You Tell Real Schools From Diploma Mills?

Colleges and universities voluntarily go through academic evaluations from third-party accrediting agencies to demonstrate they meet established academic standards and offer legitimate diplomas. Unaccredited schools that don’t provide a real, quality education leading to recognized credentials are sometimes referred to as diploma mills. If you are like most American high school graduates today, you probably don’t spend a lot of time thinking about accreditation. You might not even have a really clear idea what it’s all about. Maybe a school counselor mentioned it once. And you see college websites bragging about it. In practical terms, though, it’s just not a big area of interest. You have heard about diploma mills, though: schools that aren’t really schools, universities that feel like little more than a slick website and a credit-card processing machine. They offer a quick path to a degree, but the degree isn’t recognized in the field, or in the worst cases, a complete phony, just like the school itself. Accreditation Goes Past The Limits of Legal Standards in Stopping Diploma Mills State laws govern the licensing and operation of educational institutions that operate in their borders. However, not all states have stringent standards about educational quality. When diploma mills verge into outright fraud, they can be prosecuted. But some operate without breaking any laws—their diplomas just don’t mean what people assume they mean and most certification bodies and employe...
