The untitled Citadel series based out of India is being helmed by renowned creator duo Raj & DK (Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK), who are the showrunners and directors. The local installment is written by Sita R. Menon, along with Raj & DK. The streaming service also confirmed that the production is currently underway in Mumbai. After this, the unit will head to North India and then onwards to international locales like Serbia and South Africa. Mumbai, Dec 20 (PTI) Bollywood star Varun Dhawan is set to headline Prime Video’s Indian original series within the “Citadel” franchise, the streaming platform announced Tuesday. Billed as a “local Original spy series”, the currently untitled project hails from Prime Video and AGBO, the production banner co-founded by Hollywood filmmaking duo Russo Brothers. Raj & DK, who previously collaborated with Prime Video on the successful “The Family Man” series, will serve as showrunners and directors on the upcoming show. Gaurav Gandhi, vice president, Prime Video India, said the team is excited to begin production on the Indian chapter of the “Citadel” universe. “With this project, we are building on our mission of borderless entertainment to produce local Original content that can be enjoyed by audiences across the world. Last week, actors Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Varun Dhawan were clicked together in Mumbai as they joined hands for Russo Brothers’ Citadel, helmed by Raj and DK. This marks Varun’s and Samantha’s first collaboration with each other. Now, a report in Pinkvilla has revealed further details about the project. The publication quoted their source as saying that the shooting will start in July if there are no further delays or challenges because of the ongoing pandemic. “It will kickstart in Mumbai and then will be shot at a few foreign locations. The makers intend to shoot in some parts of Europe, however, they will finalise the exact locations after the recee, which is expected to begin soon. Meanwhile, casting for other supporting parts is going on," the publication quoted their source. The Student of the Year actor will also be performing high-octane stunts for the series. “Varun will feature in some high-octane action sequences in the show and will train in martial arts as a part of his prep. The upcoming show, co-starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu, is the India extension of Prime Video's recently released global spy franchise. "There are some directors who are on your bucket list. For me, it was Shoojit Sircar ('October), Sriram Raghavan ('Badlapur') and Nitesh Tiwari ('Bawaal'). Some of my best performances come out when I work with these directors as they push me.
