Our room had great views across the town towards the hills,with a good sized ensuite bathroom and hot water. We had really good breakfasts with the best puris we had in the whole month in India. We were able to walk to see the local zoo and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute which was most interesting. The town had interesting markets with local produce. The steam train was good to see and available for short trips starting at Darjeeling. We had taken the train from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling which took nine hours and used a diesel engine which tooted far too frequently and I would not use this route again. In all a great visit. The place is not far from the market area.And the rooms are cosy. It is quiet and has a collection of books.So a good place for backpackers and lone travellers. Bose Road, Darjeeling, which was then known as Auckland Road during the British Raj. The property belonged to the former mayor of Kolkata, Shri Kamal Kumar Basu, who sold the property to us in the year 2007. This building has been carefully reinforced and the basic layout of the building has been retained. We have added one floor to the structure that has the Attic Rooms. This establishment is a 11 room family run hotel that offers a comfortable stay. To get in touch with the latest all rooms are fitted with LCD TVs with cable connection and also have Free Wi-Fi connectivity in all rooms.So while on vacation at Darjeeling, Villa Everest offers rooms that are comfortable, decent and well equipped with views of the Singalila Range and of Mt. Kanchendzonga from every room. Nice place to stay.. a bit far, around 10-12 mins walking from mall road..foods are a but overpriced byt room service is great. Stayed in Villa Everest during my 3 night stay in Darjeeling. The hotel was a small charming owned by locals. It was very clean and there was a space heater provided in the room as well as a heated mattress pad which made it very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and there was a small and reasonably priced restaurant next to the lobby which is convenient for meals when I didn’t feel like walking to downtown, about a 10-15 minute walk. The only downside to the hotel was the wifi wasn’t that great. The only feeling that describes Nirvana is LOVE. Not love of the mushy variety , but as of love and care. Each inch of the property has been made and is being maintained with loving care. We were to stay for two days and move on to Darjeeling, we extended it to three wanted to stay more, but they were already booked. In every nook and cranny of this boutique is book rack, quite a few really, filled with varied books. Amazingly , there was a small notice asking the guests to enjoy reading them and take back a few as memories!!! I came to know that the retreat , is owned by Mr Ghosh ,who was top brass with one of the F100 MNC s. You will realise that this is his dream and labour of love,each corner decorated with unique artifacts of his travels worldwide. He had left just the day before we arrived ,I really wish we could have met him. The entire staff, who are mostly locals,will beat any five star crew of the best colleges hands down.
