The new Gram laptop series features a new design and internal upgrades. There are now five models and they include three clamshells: the Gram 17, the Gram 16 and the Gram 14, as well as two convertible models: the Gram 2-in-1 16 and the Gram 2-in1 14. LG Gram laptops So far, LG has not changed the Gram series' signature features. The LG Gram laptops are known for being very light, which is why it is named "Gram". The Gram 17 only weighs at around 2.98 pounds, which is the same weight as its predecessor. It is also highly unusual to see a 17-inch laptop under three pounds, and using one can really change the way that you feel about laptops because it will make you think you are carrying nothing when in fact, you are holding the 2020 model, as most people expect it to be much heavier due to its features. I’ve read plenty about what it’s like to use, hold, and type on an LG Gram before, but that didn’t take away from the impressive first impression it made when I used the new Gram 17 for the first time — especially this larger model. The Gram 17 has a grandiose 17-inch display, yet it’s only three pounds, which is light enough for me to carry around one-handed. Its keyboard is a joy to type on with a surprising amount of tactility and travel in the keys, and the battery life outlasts a whole day of work, even much of a second one, too. It’s a quiet laptop, and even under pressure, its fans weren’t loud enough for me to hear once. The Gram communicates its biggest selling points — lightness and longevity — so effectively that it outshines some persisting minor problems. Those include a keyboard layout that can be difficult to adjust to. For instance, the num lock is too easy to press accidentally, being right next to backspace, and the only function key is located too far away from the most essential function row buttons, making it a stretch to adjust the volume one-handed. Lastly, the large trackpad isn’t always good at palm rejection. These are important things for any laptop to get right, let alone one that has a bunch of extra real estate that should be used to avoid flaws like these. The LG Gram 17 (2021) is a big deal. Although it packs a large 17-inch display, it does so in a body that weighs as much as a 13-inch or 14-inch laptop. The LG Gram 17, for better or worse, is just as capable as those smaller devices, but gives you the added benefits of more screen real estate and a roomy keyboard and touchpad.
