Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Uses Rahul Gandhi's "Rear

New Delhi: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday took an apparent swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks made in the US, saying one should look in the rear-view mirror to notice those out to taint, tarnish and destroy the country's institutions. He also said that by 2047, India will be the number one nation. "...some of us do not take pride...misguided souls confused about the potential and real-time accomplishments of this country," he said, addressing a batch of Indian Defence Estates Service officers at his official residence. Mr Dhankhar also said some people in and outside the country were trying to "calibrate us". "We cannot allow others to calibrate us. Their calibration is not objective.... The rise of India is indigestible in some quarters because this country believes in peace and stability, harmony of the world," he said. The vice president told the officers not to "carry baggage of history. It will impede your progress". He said one has to look in the rear-view mirror and then "you know those who are not well disposed towards the nation, those who are out to taint, tarnish and destroy our institutions -- we come to notice them". "You look in the rear mirror only to avoid someone who is determined to create an accident," he said. Addressing the Indian diaspora in the US at an event, Mr Gandhi charged that the BJP and the RSS are "incapable" of looking at the future and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to drive the Indian car by only lo...

ADVERTISEMENTS: In this article we will discuss about:- 1. Role of the Vice-President of India 2. Qualifications for Vice-Presidentship 3. Procedure for the Election of the Vice-President 4. Term of Office 5. Oath of Office 6. Election Disputes 7. Functions of the Vice-President. Role of the Vice-President of India: The Constitution of India provides for the office of the Vice-President of India, who shall also be ex-officio the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, which is Upper House of Indian Parliament. He is to be elected by an electoral college consisting of members of both the Houses of Parliament. The election will be held by secret ballot on the basis of proportional representation by means of single transferable vote. Election procedure of the Vice-President of India is significantly different in some ways than that of the President of India. Firstly, in the election of the President only elected members of the Parliament participate, whereas in that of the Vice-President, both the elected as well as nominated ones both take part. Then another difference between the two is that whereas in the election of the President, members of state legislature are equal participants and enjoy parity of votes with the members of Parliament in the electoral college, for the election of the Vice-President the members of state legislatures do not participate in spite of the fact that the Rajya Sabha represents the states. Then whereas for the election of the President each member of Parl...
