Savitribai Phule Pune University (formerly University of Pune) offers research programmes in different subjects listed in Statute No. 160 and in inter-disciplinary areas leading to the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy. An applicant shall ordinarily work in a recognized place of research including the University Departments, Research Institutes and Affiliated Colleges recognized by the University. Please Note : Passing the Ph.D. Online Entrance Examination is no guarantee for admission. Admission depends only on availability of seats and guides. For availability of seats and guides Students who have failed to register at the departments/ colleges/institutes after passing the previous year online entrance examination, have to re-apply as fresh students.

Savitribai Phule Pune University (formerly known as University of Pune) was established on February 10th 1949, with Dr. M.R.Jaykar as its first Vice-Chancellor.
