Jaipur shuttler Himani Punia triumphs at Indian Masters Veterans Badminton Championship

JAIPUR: Himani Punia from Jaipur excelled in the Yonex-Sunrise Indian Masters Veterans Badminton Championship 2023 held recently in Goa. In-form Himani Punia won one gold and one silver medal to stamp her authority in style at the annual tournament, organized by the Goa Badminton Association under the auspices of Badminton Association of India (BAI). In the women's singles 40 plus final, Himani defeated Manisha Singh from Himani started off well and took a handy lead in the first game. She then maintained her lead to claim the opening game 21-16. Sindhu will be the top draw at the Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2022 scheduled from January 11-16 in New Delhi. Singapore shuttler Yew, who created history in Spain by becoming the first-ever unseeded player in the open era to win the World Championships, will lead the international line-up in the BWF season opener come 2022. Former World No. 1 Srikanth has been named the top seed in the men’s singles category, followed by the 2019 World Championships bronze medallist B Sai Praneeth. Goemkarponn desk MARGAO: The Yonex-Sunrise 45th Indian Masters (Veteran) National Badminton Championships -2022-23, being held in Goa from March 19 to 26, came to an exciting conclusion today in the 35+ to 50+ age groups. The championships are being hosted by the Goa Badminton Association under the aegis of the Badminton Association of India and the Sports Authority of Goa, with the higher group rounds (55+ to 75+) scheduled for conclusion on March 26. In the Women’s Doubles 35+ category, Sandhya Melasheemi, representing Goa, and her partner Sangeetha Mari from Karnataka emerged victorious, winning the gold medal. Ashutosh Pednekar, also from Goa, won gold in the Mixed Doubles 50+ category along with his partner Naheed Divecha from Maharashtra. Other prominent Gold medal winners were Vidyadhar J. B. S., AP and Sanave Thomas in Men’s Doubles 40+, Sanave Thomas, KER, and Nupura Gadgil, MAH in Mixed Doubles 40+, Aneesh K. A., KER, and Vijay Lancy (2), in Men’s Doubles 45+, Sreedevi A. Assam's Sumita Pujari bags gold medal in 40+ Women’s Doubles in Yonex Sunrise badminton tournament

Assam's Sumitra Pujari has bagged Gold Medal in the 40 Plus 40+ Women’s Doubles in the Yonex Sunrise All India Masters Ranking Badminton Tournament 2023. The tournament was organized by Udaipur Badminton Association under the aegis of the Rajasthan Badminton Association and Badminton Association of India from 17th to 24th January 2023. Previously, the shuttler has also bagged the Bronze Medal in the 40+ Mixed Doubles in this coveted tournament held at R L Chaufla Badminton Academy and Chawat Sports Academy in the City of Udaipur. It is worth mentioning that Pujari is a sports person and she is currently deployed at Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd in Guwahati. Besides Pujari, there are also other sports persons from Assam who have done exceptionally well in their respective fields. Assam's Nupur Rajbanshi brought laurels to the state by clinching a gold medal in the senior women's section under 60 kg at the National Kickboxing Championship held in Chandigarh in December last year. Out of 22 athletes from the Goalpara district who participated in the event, 21 managed to win medals including gold in various disciplines. PANAJI The curtains came down on the Yonex-Sunrise 45th Indian Masters (Veteran) National Badminton Championships at Navelim with Dr Manju Khandeparkar and Dr Satish Kudchadkar giving the Goa contingent plenty of reasons to cheer. Dr Manju along with her partner Sunitha Swaminathan (2), TN, registered a comfortable 21-15 21-15 win over Alka Batra and Ritu Lohiya, RAJ, to win gold in Women's 60+ Doubles. It was a fascinating dream win for Dr Manju who was participating in just her first National level tournament. Dr Satish Kudchadkar added a silver and a bronze to his kitty, following the bronze won the previous day in Men’s Doubles. In Mixed Doubles 75+, Kudchadkar and his partner Gowramma Veeralinga, KTK, went down to Vidya Bhushan Arora, UTR, and Minoti Anand, MAH, by 21-15 21-9 to win silver.
