About Prime Minister Employment Generation ProgrammeCentral govt. in August 2008, approved the introduction of a new credit linked subsidy programme called Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme. It was launched by merging the two schemes that were in operation till 31st March 2008, namely:- PMEGP aims to generate employment opportunities through establishment of micro enterprises in non-farm sector for rural as well as urban areas. With a total investment of Rs. 5,500 crore, the PMEGP scheme will thereby generate employment possibilities for 15 lakh people. Individuals and non-individuals interested in applying may do so online at kviconline.gov.in using the PMEGP e-Portal. Even current PMEGP, REGP, and MUDRA units can be upgraded or expanded with the right application. This would be the second credit from the Prime Minister Employment Generation Program. One crore rupees is the maximum sum that a second loan could be used for.
