THE 15 BEST Things to Do in Yelagiri

Short trek up hill, all steps, from Mangalam Village up to a Siva Temple at the top. Temple is open only few days when the Priest hikes up around 10:00am. The view from the top gives a panoramic view of all the villages in Yelagiri. Early morning mist feels good. The Steps seem to be safe mostly. There is a huge rock/boulder near the temple where you can climb using steel ladder for the panaramic view. The temple itself is under another boulder. From Mangalam village temple parking, you cross few small lanes inside the village, walk across flat fields for 1km, and then the trail starts. During Weekends day time there may be some condiments sold, its better to carry your own water and snacks as required. A good place to trek and enjoy plain nature, nothing amazing, but a good break though. Forest Department might charge Rs.350/- entry fees depending on the enforcement at that time. This place is the star attraction of Yelagiri. Braving long queues, we chose to go boating by ourselves, just my husband, me and the kids. We spent a sunny 20 minutes in the lake. What struck us is that luckily there are no diesel motor boats. So the eco-balance is maintained. While near Nilavoor Lake, you get plenty of exotic fruits and chocolates, it's pretty over-priced! Also, no good eateries surrounding the lake for vegetarians :( But we did have fun at one of the extreme sports spot with zipline, dirt-bike and zorbing. Overall, if you are looking to spend 3-4 hours having some fun, you can ...

Yelagiri Hills (Tamil Nadu)

Yelagiri is a lovely place for a short stay of 2 to3 days. I visited in January and the weather was wonderful. The days were warm and the late evenings were nippy. Many tourist attractions have been added to this location and there is something for all ages. The boat ride in the lake is good. However, what I liked the most were the Fundera bird park, Selfie panda and the musical fountain. The vegetarian food at Hotel Hills was very delicious. The Jalagamparai water falls is not very big and the taxi drivers charge in excess of Rs 3000 to take you there. It is not worth the expenditure. One word of caution: The autos and taxis charge exorbitant amounts. Unless you travel to Yelagiri in your own vehicle, you have to depend on their services and they literally take you for a ride. This place is very poorly Maintained . No cleanliness, no proper street lights and No good restaurants. My rating would be 3/10 . If you are planning for a family trip then I suggest you to consider Yercaud / Ooty /Munnar . Yelagiri is not a must visit place. Apart from childrens activity there is not much tourist attraction. A small town on the hill..a day or 2 trip. Cliff point was good. Did adventure sports at Thrill valley which were good. Fondura bird’s park was also good. North Indian veg food is only good at Sterling hotel. Staying at KumarRaja Palace was a bad decision. Property is not well maintained, no born fire or camping activities as mentioned in reviews. Food is also not good and expe...
