Zomato to expand Intercity Legends service to more cities

Zomato’s Intercity Legends was launched as a pilot in Delhi in late August to offer 24-hour food delivery from premium restaurant brands in different parts of the country, including sandesh and rosogollas from Kolkata, biryani from Hyderabad and chole bhature from Delhi. The service is now available to users in Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru. Zomato is now planning to expand the offering to other cities. “We have a lot of clarity. Over the next three months, we want to be in all top cities," said Siddharth Jhawar, head, Intercity Legends, Zomato. He, however, did not disclose the names of cities where the service will be available. Restaurants currently listed on the platform include Hotel Shadab, Meethe Miya and Mandi@36 from Hyderabad. Customers can order baked rosogolla from Balaram Mullick and Radharaman Mullick Sweets, and chicken biryani from Arsalan from Kolkata. It is offering sweets from sweet shops in Mathura apart from popular dishes from Bengaluru, Lucknow, Chennai and Agra. “This is festival time. It is a very interesting time for people, as Diwali and New Year is coming. By festival time, we want to be present in top cities; after that, we want to take a step back and see what is the next approach," Jhawar said. The company is focusing on getting all the fundamental metrics and the user experience metrics right, he added.Orders need to be placed before 4pm to be delivered between 3- 6pm the following day. Zomato pilots 'Intercity Legends' that lets users order from famous eateries in difference cities and deliver them the following day

This one is for the foodies. The next time you are craving for kebabs from Lucknow or the authentic mysore pak from Bengaluru, all the while in your apartment in Kolkata, you need not stop to just dreaming about these mouth-watering food – instead, you have them delivered straight to your doorstep. At least that is what Zomato is promising, with the pilot of its new ‘Intercity Legends’ service. While the reality of having the authentic food of a different part of the country being sent straight to you sounds too good to be true, Zomato feels this as the next logical step as it looks to expand business beyong usual food delivery. The new intercity service does exactly as it name suggests – it lets Indian users order the authentic dishes from different parts of the country, which are then delivered directly to them the next day. While this service will inevitably operate in the different metropolitan cities of the country, Zomato is starting small, and at this moment, the Intercity Legends service is limited to select users in Gurgaon and parts of South Delhi. It is also remarkably similar to intercity services offered by niche start-up platforms such as JustMyRoots and Tastes2plate. According to a Once the food has been delivered to your doorstep, you can microwave, air-fry, or pan-fry the food. Goyal said that all types of dishes have undergone lab testing to ensure that the aroma, texture, and taste of the food remain intact. “By leveraging Zomato’s vast network of restau...

Zomato Intercity Legends Coming soon

I think this INTERCITY LEGENDS will be never successful if someone wants to taste kabab/dosa/pizza or anything or something special, u already know where u can get the best of them in your own city. Why the heck u order them from other city with lots of delivery charges of air/train, taxes, packing charges, etc., Don't really see this being successful. How long will the food for take to be delivered after ordering? And even when you have it, you have to reheat it before eating. The biggest advantage of ordering food online is convenience, fast delivery and the food being ready to eat. Not to mention, this refrigerating and reheating will take away some flavor from the food. I can see this being a once a week thing. For example if you order Biriyani from Hyderabad, you will get the other say next monday. That way they can accumulate orders for an entire week and ship it all together to your city on Monday. I don't see them doing same day delivery or next day delivery as it will be a logistics nightmare. Maybe once they have a large number of orders to offset the transportation costs, they might be, but not initially IMO. Don't really see this being successful.
