Nashik: The Nashik zilla parishad (ZP) has charted out that it will need 536 tankers every day to provide drinking water to people in rural Nashik during the months of July and August this year, if the monsoon remains weak as predicted. The plan has been drawn up keeping in mind the falling water levels in the nearest sources like wells and community wells, and even the groundwater table faltering, possibly causing borewells to go dry if the rains are delayed due to the El Nino effect. As per the plans presented, the ZP water supply department will have to quench the thirst of at least 451 villages and 850 hamlets, the latter comprising clusters of houses around villages. There are 1,960 villages in the district. On average, there are two to three hamlets associated with most, with a population size ranging from 10 to 150 residents per hamlet. According to ZP officials, they also undertook a primary survey in every village to identify which ones face drinking water scarcity in this period. Yeola taluka is likely to be affected most, with 72 out of 124 villages probably requiring drinking water support after their immediate source goes dry. Water will also have to be provided to 45 hamlets. The taluka will thus require at least 64 tankers to provide drinking water on routes that cover a minimum distance and reach the maximum number of villages. NASHIK: The Nashik Zilla Parishad has decided to make the use of masks compulsory at the headquarters from Thursday, a day after similar measure was adopted in Satara. Nashik ZP CEO Ashima Mittal said an order in this regard was issued on Wednesday. “The Covid-19 cases are increasing in the state and the country. It has become necessary to take preventive measures. Covid infection also has long term effect. Hence, considering that prevention is the best cure, masks will be made compulsory from Thursday,” said Mittal. Apart from the Nashik ZP staff, for whom use of mask will be compulsory during the office hours, even the visitors will have to ensure that they wear the mask. The aim of the mask compulsion is to bring the spread under control. Hundreds of people from across the district come to the Nashik ZP head office for work. On seeing the mask compulsion, people will also realize the importance of use of mask and start wearing them in their respective villages, said officials.
