DEHRADUN: The Out of the seven lakh patients, around 6,56,821 were admitted to hospital and 10,418 were given first aid. “As soon as we get a call for any emergency we send our ambulance. The patient is then taken to the nearby hospital. If the patients or attendants specially ask for some particular hospital we take them there,” said Mohan Rana, the IEC officer of 108 emergency services. The maximum number of cases in which these ambulance proved to be a boon are pregnancy cases, which are around 2,71,363. Out of these over 6,000 deliveries happened in the ambulance itself. In last one year (April 2013-14) nearly 1,200 babies were born in ambulance. “The major challenges we get are from the hilly terrains. Where it’s difficult to reach a pregnant women going through labour and more than that taking her to the nearest hospital through the uneven roads”, said Manish Tinku, state head of 108.

By Express News Service COIMBATORE : In the past ten years, a total of 4,68,485 lives across the State have been saved through 108 ambulance services, said Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami in Coimbatore on Saturday. “A total of 926 free ambulances were operated in the State round the clock to provide free medical emergency services to cater to the needs of 7.21 crore people. Each ambulance has benefited up to 3.9 persons on an average everyday,” he stated. Palaniswami also pointed out that the late chief minister J Jayalalithaa had introduced a vehicle patrolling system on national and State highways to rescue people who had met with road accidents. Groups of policemen on rounds were responsible for admitting these victims to hospitals. Currently, 272 vehicles were being operated in the State; they have rescued as many as 15,757 people so far, he said at the launch of ‘Uyir’ – a forum at CODISSIA – in the city on Saturday. “Due to the various steps taken by the government, death rate in road accidents has dropped to 4.89 per cent this year from the 8.27 per cent earlier. Similarly, death of patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) has also dropped to 2.72 per cent from 5.51 per cent. The government has been implementing various schemes worth `215.35 crore to provide treatment to accident victims. People should cooperate with the government to reduce the road accidents,” he said. Express News Service ONGOLE: In a series of incidents that happened on Wednesday, the 108 Neonatal Life Support Ambulance services of Praksam district saved three infants by providing medical aid and shifting them to the Ongole Government General Hospital (GGH- RIMS) on time. On Wednesday, a 108 neonatal ambulance from Kandukur went to Kolachanakota village in Maddipadu mandal and shifted a just-born baby to the Ongole GGH. In another incident, a 108 neonatal ambulance rushed to Tarlupadu village from Markapur base and shifted a premature baby to the Ongole Government General Hospital, by placing her in the incubator of the vehicle. In the third incident, a Kandukur based 108 Neonatal ambulance vehicle shifted a 30-day-old baby girl to the Ongole-GGH from Papinenipalli, a village in Kanigiri mandal limits, after she developed breathing problems. The 108 ambulance staff provided artificial breathing by placing the baby on the ventilator and safely shifted her to the Government General Hospital. The state government introduced the ultra modern 108-Neonatal Emergency (Neonatal advanced Life support) ambulances across the state with an aim to reduce neonatal death rate. Bhubaneswar: For 108 government ambulance driver Rudra Kumar Singh, rushing critical patients to hospitals is not uncommon as he has been his routine duty for the last several years. However, his duty at the Bahanaga train tragedy site on June 2 was fraught with more responsibility as every life was precious. Rajesh Kumar Mohanty, another driver, too gauged the seriousness of the crisis situation as the whole world was shocked with the horrifying train accident. For around 1,000 crew, including drivers, helpers, emergency medical technicians, operation staff and others of the emergency ambulance service, it was the time to rise to the occasion. “We have not stopped working from the evening on June 2 till June 5. I shifted not less than 100 injured passengers from the accident site to Soro community health centre on June 2,” Singh said. “We activated all our staff and engaged 229 ambulances at the accident site. The ambulances were brought from Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Khurda.
