CHENNAI: Tangedco has begun linking domestic consumers’ service connections with their Aadhaar numbers in line with the government order issued recently making it compulsory to continue to get subsidy. Tangedco chairman and MD Rajesh Lakhoni said a link with the logo of the Aadhaar has been provided on the discom’s website. Consumers can click on the link and enter the service number to link it to Aadhaar by entering the Aadhaar number and uploading a copy of the card. “Consumers can link Aadhaar while paying the EB bill online as the payment link has been programmed to prompt the consumers,” said the official. While a GO issued in this regard recently stated that linking Aadhaar is mandatory in order to get the government subsidy for the first 100 units consumed, Tangedco officials maintained that the subsidy would continue for those who do not link Aadhaar. In a GO dated October 6, the government said that an eligible individual desirous of availing of benefits of subsidy is required to furnish proof of possession of Aadhaar number or undergo Aadhaar authentication. However, Tangedco officials said that the exercise is only to generate proper data on those availing of the subsidy as per the guidelines from the Union government.
