Kabir Das (or Sant Kabir, Bhagat Kabir) was a 15th-century Indian mystic poet and saint, whose writings influenced Bhakti movement and his verses are found in Guru Granth Sahib. While he seemed to have spent his early life in a Muslim family, he was strongly influenced by his teacher, the Hindu bhakti saint Bhagat Ramananda ( Top 10 Dohas of Kabir Kabir wrote this verse to sing the glory of Guru, without whose help, one cannot cross this ocean of worldly life. He asks, “If both, Guru and God in form of Govind were to appear at the door, whose feet will I worship first?” He answers, “It has to be the Guru’s feet first, because without him, how would I have recognized (known) God?” “When I started to look for evil, I couldn’t find any. When I started to look inside my heart, I found no one was worse than me.” This doha tells the reality that whenever we find something wrong being done, we start to point out fingers and blame people for that. If you really start to find someone who is bad, you will not find any but start to look inside yourself. Your inner self is bad and no other one. This Kabir doha tells us the common behaviour of the people who believe in God. It says “everyone remembers God, prays to him and chants hymns to him in bad times but no one remembers him in good times.
