The Station Agent movie review (2003)

It's really funny how people see me and treat me, since I'm really just a simple, boring person. So says Finbar McBride, the hero of "The Station Agent." Nothing in life interests him more than trains. Model trains, real trains, books about trains. He likes trains. Finbar is a dwarf, and nothing about him interests other people more than his height. It's as if he's always walking in as the next topic of conversation. His response is to live in solitude. This works splendidly as a defense mechanism, but leaves him deeply lonely, not that he'd ever admit it. Finbar is a character of particular distinction, played by As the movie opens, Finbar is working in a model train store owned by apparently his only friend in the world, Henry Styles ( There is a third lonely soul in Newfoundland. She is Olivia Harris ( That would be a slapstick scene in another kind of movie, but writer-director Finbar is a handsome man, which does not escape the attention of a local librarian named Emily ( The movie's island of sanity is Cleo ( There was a documentary on cable the other night about little people, describing their lives in their own words, and its subtext seemed to be: Yes, I'm short. Get over it. I remember my face burning with shame early one morning when I was 6 years old and went with my father to where the circus was setting up. I gawked through a flap in the dining tent at the circus giant, and he scowled and said, "Can't you find anything else to stare at?" and I learned somethin...

Agent Movie Review

2 Hr 36 Mins | Action | 28-04-2023 Cast - Akhil, Sakshi Vaidya, Mammooty, Murali Sharma, Dino Morea and others Director - Surender Reddy Producer - Anil Sunkara Banner - AK Entertainments Music - Hiphop Tamizha Akhil Akkineni is coming back to his action avatar with Agent in Surender Reddy’s direction. He is coming to big screens almost after a two-year break. Akhil is seen in all new look for the Agent while the trailer looked stylish and action-packed. The movie was released today in theaters. The Agent seems to be on a big mission and let us see the review of how his mission went. An ethical hacker Rama Krishna aka Ricky (Akhil) is an aspiring secret agent. He falls in love with Vaidhya (Sakshi Vaidhya). He admires the RAW chief Mahadev (Mammootty) and tries to impress him with his skills. The God (Dino Morea) is an international criminal after whom the whole of Raw is. Mahadev resorts to sending Ricky aka Agent Wild on an unofficial mission to bring down the God. Is Ricky successful in his mission? What is the mission and who is the God actually? All these questions are answered by the story of the Agent. Performances Akhil put his full efforts into the role of the wild agent, but his character always appears needlessly hyper. His action stunts and looks show his dedication. The poor story and the way it was pulled off purs cold water on his effort. Dino Morea is just another Hindi villain who does all the high-profile bad jobs and his character is severely boring. A s...

The Secret Agent movie review (1996)

I have been wondering ever since I read it why someone doesn't make a movie out of Joseph Conrad's novel “Victory.” It tells the story of a proud, lonely man, the young woman who comes to share his hideaway on an island, the murderers who invade their solitude, and the way he must choose between philosophy and violence. I see In a more perfect world, I could go on to describe the movie, its surprises and riches, its depths of character, its marriage of ideas and action. But in this world I am forced instead to review “The Secret Agent,” an overcast new film made from a different novel by Joseph Conrad (from, indeed, perhaps the least filmable novel he ever wrote). The action takes place mostly in 1890s London--or in a small, rainy corner of London represented by a claustrophobic studio set. In a shabby street corner shop, a man named Verloc ( Pornography is not his real business. He is a member of an anarchist cell. Its members meet in Verloc's flat, planning the destruction of society. But anarchy is not his real business, either; he is a double agent, paid by the Russians to infiltrate exile groups. (These are the Czarist Russians, of course, although the Soviet version also hated anarchists.) Verloc lives with a ripe young woman ( Conrad wrote his novel soon after an actual attempt to blow up the Royal Observatory at Greenwich, and in “The Secret Agent” the Russian ambassador ( Conrad made “The Secret Agent” a character study, and although it is not one of his great nov...

Agent movie review highlights: This Akhil Akkineni starrer is plain okay so far

Surender Reddy's Akhil Akkineni, Sakshi Vaidya, Mammootty and Dino Morea starrer The Wild One aka Rikki aka Ramakrishna (Akhil Akkineni) is accused of killing RAW chief, The Devil aka Mahadev (Mammootty) who's looking to hunt down syndicate head The God (Dino Morea). We're shown how a not-so-normal boy-next-door dreams of being a RAW agent, so much so he doesn't know how to take no for an answer. Unhinged is an understatement when it comes to describing him. He falls for NASA-aspirant Vaidya (Sakshi Vaidya) who moves in and out of the story for the duets. The story by Vakkantham Vamsi seems interesting on paper but the execution is lacking. You can see the conflicts coming from a mile away. Hiphop Tamizha's music is subpar and doesn't really add to anything. Despite it all, Akhil seems to have the time of his life playing the character and it shows on screen. He's a delight to watch when he's letting loose. There are exactly two scenes in the first half that let him do that completely and it shows how mindless fun this film could've been. With a first half that leaves you wanting more, it remains to be seen if the second half will fare well.

Agent movie review: Akhil Akkineni actioner is hardly entertaining

• • • • Agent movie review: Akhil Akkineni actioner is hardly entertaining Agent movie review: Akhil Akkineni actioner is hardly entertaining Agent movie review: The film falls somewhere between a larger-than-life Surender Reddy presentation and an Akhil Akkineni movie, but fails to belong to either end of the spectrum. After the huge period movie Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (2019), director Surender Reddy took up the task of giving Akhil Akkineni a mass makeover with Agent. Akhil’s last outing was Most Eligible Bachelor with director Bhaskar, which was just average. Surender Reddy continues his association with writer Vakkantham Vamshi for this project too; they have given hits like Oosaravelli, Race Gurram, Kick 2 together. Just like any other Mahadev and Dharma have a past connection, as the latter was once his best agent. Dharma worked only for the appreciation of Mahadev and to be accepted by all as the best agent of all time. How did Dharma become the bad guy, why Rikki is being rejected by RAW, and what role he plays in the fight between Mahadev and Dharma forms the rest of the film. Comparisons with the recent spy film Pathaan are bound to happen. Agent also tries to capture all the elements of an international spy adventure, but flounders in several respects. Director Surender Reddy is known for stylish and emotional action adventures. Here, the emotional connection is absent, and when it shows up, it is too weak and too late. The film, however, goes all guns blazing ...
